Greetings!
We've been moving and shaking, and while this isn't something that can be measured on a Richter scale (thankfully), we hope the directions in which we are headed will strengthen the educational outcome for students in Los Angeles public schools.
We are 90% settled in and ready for visitors and hosting lots of meetings!
Please read on for the brief details.
Sincerely, Peggy Funkhouser President & CEO

NEW NAME. NEW LOCATION. SAME MISSION |
Formerly Urban Education Partnership, we are reclaiming
our original name, Los Angeles Education Partnership, in our 25th year as we
recommit our focus and resources in Los Angeles and California.
In addition, we have also relocated our
offices. The new building on Seventh Street
allows us to take advantage of a downturn in the real estate market as our
previous location was hoping to convert to residential units soon. Also, a different floor plan in our new space creates more
efficiency for our staff.
Still located in downtown Los Angeles, we continue our
mission to help students in high-need schools improve their academic
achievement by partnering with educators, parents and the community.

L.A. EDUCATION PARTNERSHIP HOSTS AN EVENING OF DYNAMIC CONVERSATION
|
Moderator David Abel and panelist Darline Robles, Superintendent, L.A. County Schools
In June, the Partnership hosted a panel discussion about "Reforming Public Education in Los Angeles:
Lessons from the Last 25 Years."
Warren Olney
introduced the evening as an opportunity "for us to consider why we are
still a nation at risk and what needs to be done." Thirteen expert panelists
participated in an engaging discussion kept lively by moderator David Abel, founder of New Schools Better Neighborhoods. They were given the opportunity
to voice their views on topics that ranged from teaching careers, to
differential pay, to academic achievement data, to the future of education
reforms. Conducted in a manner that presented diverse viewpoints, the panel offered a
dynamic response to critical issues of the day.
Based on panelists' enthusiasm for participating and on the
audience reaction, the event confirmed that there is a need for a series of these conversations. Watch
for details about an upcoming series of four more panels.
