Valentine's Day Trivia! | |

|
1. During Medieval times, girls ate unusual foods on St. Valentine's Day to have a dream of their future husband.
2. Alexander Graham Bell applied for his patent on the telephone, on the Valentine's Day, 1876.
3. In Wales, love spoons of wood were carved and given as gifts on February 14th. Hearts, keys and keyholes formed the favorite theme of decorations on the spoons, which together symbolized- "You unlock my heart!"
4. Some people believed that if a woman saw a robin-flying overhead on Valentine's Day, it meant she would marry a sailor and if she saw a sparrow, she would marry a poor man and be very happy. If she saw a goldfinch, she would marry a very rich person.

Assume The Best Apple's Steve Jobs once said "Let's make a dent in the universe." How about if we make a dent in Disability World? Let's assume the best--instead of the worst--about children and adults with disabilities. We can make the choice to do this, can't we?
Let's assume the best: that children and adults with disabilities are competent and should be the drivers of their own destinies. Let's assume they can triumph at home, school, work, or community when they have assistive technology devices (power wheelchairs, communication devices, etc.), supports, and/or accommodations--the same things needed by people without disabilities.
Let's assume all children and adults with disabilities can achieve these great outcomes when they're given opportunities to do so. This requires us to also assume the best about ourselves... Click here for more. This article is from the January 21, 2011 edition of the Disability is Natural Magazine.

For those families who completed the on-line form last year you will have a speedier process registering your camper this year. If you are new to camp and have questions about the registration process please visit the Autism Society website for some very thorough information and if you still have questions, please contact the camp office at 919-542-1033 or send an email to camproyall@autismsociety-nc.org.
An annual application fee of $25 and Proof of NC residence is required for every camper so please be prepared to submit that information along with your on-line registration form. |
