Greetings!
Summer is in sight! The end of school is just around the corner! There are lots of exciting things happening in our area this summer. We hope you will participate in as many of the activities that we have planned as possible.
For many kids summertime can be lonely, changes in routine can lead to stress, and the days can get long and boring. We want to provide as many positive experiences as possible this summer. In addition to the weekly events already planned, we will be starting a Fitness Tracker Program with prizes for consumers that meet their goals, like walking or swimming 30 minutes a day, 3 times a week. We will be posting a sign-up sheet for the Fitness Tracker Program before school gets out.
We reviewed safety tips for summertime with our staff in the last newsletter and also in the May Points of Interest supervision. Help us keep your child safe by providing sunscreen, appropriate clothing (including hat and sunglasses if desired) and lots of water. We will need your permission to take your child swimming. Our policy requires a lifeguard to be present at all times when a consumer swims.
As always, we welcome your input. Please share your ideas! And have a blast this summer! |

Autism Awareness Fair a Hit!
On Friday, April 16, 2010, hundreds of people gathered at Lineberger Park in Gastonia for Dreamweavers' 2nd Annual Autism Awareness Fair. The purpose of the fair was to provide information about the resources in our area for families living with children on the autism spectrum. A total of 16 vendors participated.
The feedback we have gotten has been very positive. Everyone enjoyed the free train rides and parents were appreciative of the fenced area to keep the kids safe. We look forward to an even bigger and better event next year. If you are interested in helping plan or organize the event, please contact Betsy Huffstetler.
