The Museum School -- An Update on a Proposed Neighborhood Charter School for ZIP Code 30002
State Application SubmittedFriday, July 31st, we hand-delivered our application to the State Charter Commission! With experience from our trial run with DeKalb County and feedback from our education and charter school experts, our state application is even stronger than our county submission. The next step is an interview with members of the State Commission and our board sometime this fall. We anticipate an answer on our application by December of this year. A few people have commented that they were discouraged by the county denial, but we are actually right on track. The county denial was anticipated and may be a positive step toward being chartered by the state. The newly formed State Charter Commission has stated that they are not inclined to approve charter applications that have already been approved for funding through the county. Keep those donations coming - we're one step closer to having a neighborhood school to build! Silent Auction Volunteers Needed NOWThe Fundraising Committee is busily planning our first annual silent auction in November. We need volunteers now to make this event successful. Some planning has already taken place, but it's time to pull up our sleeves and get to the fun stuff! We need enthusiastic volunteers to chair and serve on the following teams: Auction Items - This team will gather and display items. Facilities - This team will manage the location, decorations and entertainment. Food and Beverage - This team will - you guessed it - coordinate food and drinks, including adult beverages. Ticket Sales - This team will manage ticket and table sales and organize the auction checkout process. Please contact Aspen Kron to participate as a chairperson or general team member. Our goal is to have team chairs in place by August 10th so we can plan the first team meeting for that week. Please join us in producing "A Night at the Museum" to support The Museum School and show the community what we're all about! Up next - We need sponsors and donations of all kinds for the auction, so please think about items you can donate or community contacts you can approach for donations. Items that typically sell well at auction include things like original artwork, gift baskets, services such as spas and salons, babysitting, housecleaning, etc., airline tickets and getaways, adventure packages and gift certificates. All donated products and services are fully tax deductible. There are still several volunteer positions open for other school teams as well. Please get involved by visiting our website to complete a volunteer profile and join our volunteer network.
Thanks for your support!
