"A Gift That Lasts For All Tomorrows"
 
Dave Owens  On December 28, Farm Credit presented checks totaling one-million dollars to eight different Illinois agriculture programs. Each gift is set-up as an endowment where the principal will be permanently invested and a portion of the investment earnings will be used each year to support the specific program. The rest of the earnings will be reinvested so - over time - the endowed fund should continue to grow and will hopefully continue to provide even more program support into the future.

Today's consumers are often surprised to learn that less than one percent of the corn grown in Illinois is the sweet corn they recognize on their dinner plate. So where is the destination for all those kernels of field corn that represent the other 99% of Illinois corn?


Nearly half of all field corn grown in Illinois is exported out of the United States. About 25% of Illinois corn is used in livestock feed throughout the country. But the majority of each corn kernel that crosses the Mississippi River at Cape Girardeau, Missouri, and heads to SEMO Milling is ultimately transformed into a variety of food products and ingredients used by nationally branded Fortune 500 food companies.          Read More...

Meet Farm Credit's Chief Appraiser
 

"Watching the land market is always fascinating to me. Trying to understand both the economic and non-economic motivations of the people who are choosing to buy, sell, or hold land is an on-going challenge."
 
Paul StoddardRaised on a cash grain farm in Piatt County, Paul Stoddard studied economics and agricultural economics at the University of Illinois. He started his career working in farm management and ag real estate prior to joining Farm Credit as an appraiser almost fourteen years ago. Paul began serving as the Association's Chief Appraiser in 2007.

Farm Credit Announces 2011 College Scholarship Program 
Farm Credit Services of Illinois is growing its annual "We Understand" Agriculture Scholarship Program this year. Twenty-five $1,000 scholarships will be awarded to high school seniors who plan to enroll in an agriculture-related curriculum at any college or university this fall. Applicants must reside or attend high school in the Association's 60-county service area.

 

An on-line registration form and scholarship application need to be submitted to Farm Credit by February 28, 2011. Both the form and application are available at:

Dennis IversIvers Farms is a 7700 acre operation located near St. Francisville (south of Lawrenceville). The Ivers Family have been Farm Credit customers for over 50 years. Wayne JohnsonWayne and Bob Johnson are brothers who are also partners. They run Johnson Farms (corn, soybean, and some wheat) in Lawrence and Wabash County and in Knox County, Indiana.
