What's Your Inspiration?

Foliage of the Season for Dramatic Interiors

I love to walk through Chanticleer Gardens this time of year. With so many deer grazing in my own backyard, I have to seek out these protected and nurtured spaces to fully appreciate Autumn's bounty. The choreography of these landscapes is very inspiring yet unpretentious. It is certainly fitting to borrow the natural colors and shapes of the seasonal display and allow them to blossom in your own home -  but perhaps in ways a bit unconventional.  The few examples shown below depict the duet of nature and ambient living. With such inspiration, even when the brisk temperatures arrive, your living areas remain warm and inviting.

Sheer Blinds are the Solution

The privacy and security of blinds. The sheer beauty of light. Vienna Window Shades are a perfect complement to your home; the subtlety and beauty of sheers, masterfully blended with the practicality and security of a horizontal blind. The unique design of these shades allows you to control your view of the world. When fully closed, the soft fabric vanes diffuse sunlight, and provide utter privacy. When opened, the sheer backing offers a veiled but luminous vista. And when raised completely, Vienna disappears neatly into the contoured headrail, offering an unimpeded view to the world outside. They are an exceptional stand alone window treatment or can be paired with fabric treatments as well.

Green Fabrics for the home.

green

The bold truth is that the production of textiles is one of the most devastating manufacturing processes to our environment. Negative impacts include not only the chemicals used in the dyeing process and final finishing, but also, the waste disposal and water usage. The good news is that there is now available many "green" fabric choices.  Of course, that is a term that has various certifications and definitions.. Many "green" fabrics focus on the use of recycled polyester in place of nylon, since nylon can't yet be recycled. Consideration for manufacturing processes, ultimate recyclability, and the traceability of fibers are also part of the formula. More and more, the trend is for designers to favor fabrics that measure up to a full lifespan of eco-scrutiny. Many companies produce beautiful organic cottons, sometimes mixed with bamboo and hemp. The Kravet Green Collection is made of 100% recycled polyester. These fabrics are woven and treated with no additional chemicals. During the finishing process, only water-based products and environmentally approved dyes are used. And after years of enjoyable use, these fabrics are all recyclable. So just remember that if you are ready to go "green" with your home textiles, there is a fabulous selection to choose from; Robert Allen, Harmony Art, Modgreen Pod, Kravet, Tapestria, Ado, and Duralee, to name just a few.
