Ten days after Oct. 16, an assembly of the world's religious leaders will meet in Assisi with Pope Benedict XVI "to solemnly renew the commitment of believers of every religion to live their own religious faith as a service to the cause of peace." The original World Day of Prayer for Peace was convened in Assisi by Pope John Paul II, at which leaders of the great world religions testified to the fact that religion is a factor of union and peace, and not of division and conflict.
