Prep for Spring Synod Assembly Session
Displays, resolutions, voting member designations . . . lots of information is being added to the synod Web site in advance of the Spring Session of the 2010 Synod Assembly.
- A copy of the Announcement Letter sent to congregations this week is available. In the memo is a listing of the number of Voting Members allotted each congregation and other basic facts.
- By April 7*, Resolutions and Memorials for consideration by the Spring Session should be submitted to the Rev. Darcy Tillman, chair, Reference and Counsel Committee. Resolutions are the means by which the Synod Assembly articulates its thinking on a particular matter and requests actions, and Memorials are the means by which the synod brings a matter before the Churchwide Assembly. Samples, templates, contact information for Pr. Tillman and general Resolution/Memorial information can be found online. * This deadline is 30 days prior to the beginning of the Assembly.
- Before April 15, applications for display space at the Spring Session must be received by Amy Acland, Synod Assembly Coordinator. Find display policies, layout info and application forms on the synod Web site.
- Nominations for positions of synod leadership to be elected this spring are being collected. Find a list and position descriptions for the Consultation Committee, Synod Council and Churchwide Assembly Voting Member on the synod Web site.
- Young adult registrants can take advantage of the "30 under 30" offer. Voting Members and Visitors under the age of 30 will receive a $30 fee reduction. Young adult participation is particularly encouraged this year not only because the synod is celebrating "The Year of the Young Adult," but also because the 2009 ELCA Churchwide Assembly adopted an amendment to the Constitution of Synods which reads, in part: "It is the goal of this synod that at least 10 percent of the voting members of the Synod Assembly, Synod Council, committees, and organizational units of this synod be youth and young adults."
- Rostered leaders who WILL NOT be attending Synod Assembly are required to submit a letter (by post or email) to Bishop Graham requesting to be excused.
