Greetings!
Spring is the perfect opportunity to declutter and organize. It's time to store winterwear and organize summerwear. And while you're at it, clear out your linen closet and any lurking emotional baggage. Swap, recycle, donate or throw away what you don't want to keep.
Simple Solution's motto is..."I never met a mess I couldn't organize."
The first thing we do when working with a client is to ask them how they do things. What is working and what isn't? What do they use most often? Keep this in mind when doing your Spring cleaning and organizing.
If you need help, give us a call to set up an appointment. It's amazing what can be accomplished in 3 hours with a little help, support and expertise! |
#1: Swap your Winter Wardrobe for Spring Things
|
Set aside 2 to 3 hours and trash bags labeled swap, recycle, donate and trash.
Winter Clothes and Accessories can be cleaned and placed in bins under the bed or in the back of the closet. Sprinkle with a few peppercorns to ward off moths. Many dry cleaners will store winter clothes for the price of dry cleaning. Shoes and Boots should be cleaned and placed in clearly labeled boxes.
Handbags can be stuffed with tissue paper to help them keep their shape.
When organizing your Summer wardrobe, remember...
"If you have to hunt for it, you're probably not going to wear it."
-Gillian Wells, Real Simple Magazine, Sept 2002
-
Most frequently worn items go up front for easy access.
-
Group like with like. Keep all blouses together, all red shoes together...etc.
-
Buy all the same hangers and make sure they face the same direction in the closet. Looks great and saves space! Recycle those wire hangers - return them to your dry cleaners!
|
#2: Take Everything Out of Your Linen Closet
|
Empty out the linen closet and see what you have. Give yourself a couple of hours for this. Throw out sachets and replace. Anything worn out or stained can be washed and donated to your local animal shelter.
Check for White Sales, so you can stock up on anything new that you need!
Extra blankets can be cleaned and stored in the back of the closet. |
#3: Use this Opportunity to Let Go...
|
...of stuff that's holding you back. Are Christmas cards still hanging around? Got magazines from 1999? While you're getting ready for Spring, why not tackle some of this clutter too? One pile at a time.
Old love letters, photos or other emotional baggage? Gather it all up and put it in a box, out of sight, until you're ready to sort through it and toss. You don't have to get rid of it now, but you don't have to see it everywhere either. |
|
I hope these tips will help you with your Spring cleaning, organizing and recycling...and inspire you.
Look for next month's newsletter focusing on how to organize your kitchen and getting that junk drawer to close!
Sincerely,
Gillian
