2009 New Year's Resolutions
|
The New Year is upon us. We have closed the door on a 2008 replete with historical milestones, some amazing and some awful. Now, 2009 brings economic trepidation, tempered by hope. Like many, PepperDash has a few Resolutions to guide us in the coming year.
Focus on the fundamentals....
In the last few years PepperDash has grown quickly, surfing the growth in overall demand for AV control programming. Our adoption of QuickArrow.com for project management, and Salesforce.com for sales management, have greatly improved our
capability to track and respond to many projects during this growth cycle. We have also worked hard to control the quality of our programming and graphics, in and implemented post-project surveys so you can tell us how we are doing.
But we also recognize that -- first and foremost -- we are a services company. We understand that a personal element is the key to our success. For 2009, we will be looking for new ways to improve our services and be a better partner to our clients. We will work on processes and training to ensure that every PepperDash employee is providing our clients with outstanding personal attention, in addition to outstanding graphic design and programming skill. We will try to reach out to our clients for ideas and feedback on how we can do better, and then deliver.
Improve our value proposition...
While we always strive to be the very best control programming services company in the business, we also believe that there are other ways we can add value. In 2008 we
added DSP programming as a supplement to our commercial control programming. We also provide user manuals and training services as other value points. But there is more that we can do to support the manufacturers and integrators who rely on us to help them be successful.
In 2009 we will be looking for ways to streamline the programming effort with improved frameworks and templates, as we usually do. But there are other areas that could
use some attention.... We will explore ways to improve energy efficiency, and take advantage of the green market momentum. We will look for ways to deliver on the full promise of IT/AV convergence, by facilitating system monitoring for IT departments and for integrators who want to better capitalize on service contract opportunities. With the increase in federal infrastructure spending coming up, we will also be looking for ways to create value for our clients in the government and military sectors.
Push GUI's up the value chain...
PepperDash has long been a proponent of standardizing the
user experience in a given environment.
Our work with the InfoComm Dashboard for Control project makes that clear. But there are still many companies and institutions that accept widely divergent user interfaces from their vendors, thereby causing frustration for their end-users and headaches for their support staff.
For 2009, we will be looking for ways to help consultants
and integrators develop and clarify Graphical User Interface (GUI) standards
for their customers, and for corporations and schools to do so for their user
communities. Improving the user experience and supporting corporate branding are the primary benefits. But defining corporate and institutional global GUI standards also removes the guess-work from bidding and programming. Defining GUI standards for integrators helps them with managing a team of programmers as well as ensuring quality control, in addition to enforcing their own branding as well.
We look forward to working with you in 2009.

Title:CFO
Tell us about your job:
I am responsible for all administration, finance,
accounting, treasury, tax, legal, and human resources.
How long have you been an accountant? 32 years
What surprises you the most in this current economic climate? All the warning signs were there and our
political and financial leadership did not have the fortitude to stop this
train wreck from happening.
For example,"Since 2004, financial advisor
Peter Schiff has warned that the housing market was a house of cards and that
stock values were artificially inflated by Federal Reserve policies." ("The Doomsayers Who Got It Right" Wall Street Journal 02 Jan 2009).
What do you see ahead for 2009 in terms of the economy?
A lot of change, some for the good, some not so good. Companies with a strong business model that
economically provide superior customer service will thrive. Those that don't won't. Unfortunately, that means a significant
number of businesses will have to downsize in the near future.
What aspect of your job interests you the most? Why? The ability to have my hands in every aspect of the business
and being able to make a difference.
