JackB

Jack Berckemeyer
A nationally-recognized presenter, author, and humorist, Jack Berckemeyer, began his career as a middle school teacher in Denver, Colorado. After two years of teaching he was named as an outstanding educator at his school, and shortly thereafter he was identified as one of the outstanding educators in the district. In 2003, he received the Outstanding Alumni Award from the Falcon School District.

Jack brings his energy, humor, and expertise of the middle level adolescent to all staff development as he helps teachers and administrators remember why this job makes a difference.

Jack has presented in conference and school district settings both nationally and internationally. Jack served as a judge for the Disney American Teacher Awards and the selection committee for the USA TODAY All Teacher Team.

Jack was also the Assistant Executive Director for the National Middle School Association for 13 years and is the author of Managing the Madness- A practical guide to Middle Grades Classrooms. He is also the co-author of H.E.L.P. for teachers.

Jack is currently the Director of professional development for Incentive Publications. He works with schools all over the world and coordinates the NUTS and BOLTS Symposiums located in Destin, Florida and Boulder, Colorado.

Mark McLeod
Recognized as a dynamic and highly motivational speaker, Mark McLeod brings his knowledge of being one of Mississippi's top administrators to school districts nationwide.  

 As a lifelong educator, his educational experiences include high school and middle school math teacher, coach and principal. 

He was twice selected as Teacher of the Year in his district.  In 2002, he was selected as his district Administrator of the Year and Mississippi's Region Four Administrator of the Year. 

Mark gives dynamic and motivating presentations on classroom management and effective instruction.  He has presented at local, state, and regional conferences and has conducted numerous workshops and keynotes throughout the country.

Cathyrn Kaye

Cathy Berger Kaye is, in a word, DYNAMIC. Her presentation style is vibrant and engaging, her knowledge extensive. She can easily move from talking about projects for K-12 students to suggesting how to infuse high quality service learning into college and university curriculums.

As a conference presenter, she is the morning get-the-crowd-going and the late afternoon picker-upper- she simply wows her audience. 

She is a nationally recognized expert in service learning, student leadership development and related fields.


Cathy is an author, an international consultant.  She was the 2005 recipient of the Inspirational Spirit Award, Learn and Serve America.  She was awarded the Seal of Excellence by the Council for Service Learning  Excellence.

Her current clients include the Los Angeles Unified School District, Youth Service California, Miami-Dade School District, Texas Center for Service Learning, and the Central and Eastern European Schools Association.


Cathy Kaye is one of the most wise and dynamic resources on service learning. Her knowledge of strategies, resources, people, and ideas in service learning on almost any topic is encyclopedic. Unlike an encyclopedia, though, she is engaging and inspiring. Her workshops engage everyone in important questions about how and why to do service learning.

Dedra Stafford is an instructional technology specialist and a former middle level teacher who is passionate about middle level education.

 Dedra presents entertaining and informative presentations that energize middle level educators.

One of her areas of expertise deals with technology. Dedra has the uniquDe ability to put teachers at ease when dealing with technology issues.

 She is a middle level advocate and a presenter who understands the issues teachers face on a daily basis.

Debbie Silver

Debbie Silver is a presenter who makes you laugh, think, and cry all at the same time.

Her popular workshops and keynotes are perfect for motivating teachers and administrators.

Debbie is an award winning educator, an author (Drumming to the Beat of Different Marchers), and a true friend of middle level education.

She has presented all over the world and is a long time supporter of Texas middle level educators.

Monte Selby

Monte Selby is a singer, songwriter, and true believer in middle level education.

Monte is known for his unique keynote and workshop presentations.

During his presentations he sings original music relating to adolescent and family issues.

Monte uses humor, real-life experiences and his love of music to motivate educators.

He has several CDs and has written for Middle Ground magazine.

Anthony Limoges

Anthony Limoges is the co-author of the popular, "Bricks and Bridges: Bridging the Gap to At-Risk Youth" title.

Anthony is the director of the Juvenile Court and Community Schools in San Diego, CA.

Whether your school is urban, suburban or rural, you have seen the effects of gangs on your campuses.  Anthony will share with you a basic understanding of gangs and the gang mentality. He will teach you numerous strategies that you can implement immediately to help connect these high risk youth with the education they need and deserve.

The Texas Middle School Association's 36th Annual Conference and Exhibit returns to the Austin Convention Center, Austin, Texas, February 24-26, 2011.

This year the conference will "refocus on the middle" with outstanding featured speakers, relevant breakout sessions and timely topics.  Our exhibit hall will again feature the latest and greatest products for middle level educators.

TMSA is the only organization in Texas that focuses solely on you--the middle level educator.  In addition to providing you access to earn valuable CPE credits, our conference is full of exciting ideas and best practices that you can take back to your campus for immediate implementation.

This year marks the first year that the conference will feature sessions from our Texas Schools To Watch campuses. These sessions will be highly informative and interactive, with time for you to sit and talk to with those schools selected to be a Texas School to Watch.
