While in the exhibit hall, be sure to visit the TMSA Bookstore and browse hundreds of educational titles.

TMSA Featured Speakers will be on-hand to sign books and visit with attendees.  Book signing times will be posted to our website in January.

Mark is a life long award winning educator who understands the issues teacher must face in their classroom. He is currently working on his first book and has presented at various state conferences. His enthusiastic and encouraging presentations leave participants inspired.

Annual Awards: Submission Deadline Extended to February 1, 2010!

Elmer Watson Award Winning School

TMSA will recognize and honor outstanding middle schools from across the state of Texas as Elmer Watson Award Winning Schools for 2009-2010 during the Annual Conference and Exhibit, March 4-6, 2010 at the Arlington Convention Center in Arlington, Texas.

Criteria to be considered for nomination is based on the recommendations for transforming middle schools published in Turning Points 2000, a report of the Carnegie Corporation, and Spotlight on the Middle, the report of the Texas Education Agency. We invite you to nominate your school for this prestigious award.

To apply for this recognition, please complete the application and respond to the five questions. Limit your responses to three typed pages total. Return the completed application to

by February 1, 2010  Schools will be notified of their selection, receive information, and will be notified of conference procedures by the TMSA Conference Committee in February.

No TMSA Board Member's school shall be eligible to receive the Elmer Watson School Award. No school may be awarded the Elmer Watson School Award more than once every five years. Winning schools must have current institutional membership in TMSA.

Please respond to the following questions on a separate sheet of paper. You may submit up to three pages.

  1. Describe how you recognize and ensure success for all students through implementation of the Turning Points 2000 model.
  2. Describe up to three educational innovations currently implemented on your campus.
  3. How does your school involve parents and communities to support student learning and healthy development?
  4. Describe one activity or program that makes your campus unique.
  5. Explain why you believe that your school is deserving of the Elmer Watson School Recognition Award.

Outstanding Teaching Award

TMSA will recognize and honor outstanding middle school teachers from across the state of Texas as outstanding middle level teachers for 2009-2010 during the Annual Conference and Exhibit, March 4-6, 2010 at the Arlington Convention Center in Arlington, Texas..
 
You are encouraged to nominate a teacher for the TMSA Outstanding Teacher Award to be presented during the conference. Nominees should exemplify the beliefs of the middle school movement. They should be child-centered, nurturing and compassionate, willing to explore and experiment, willing to take risks, and collaborative in their day-to-day activities. They should be a positive role model for other middle level teachers. In order to be eligible for the award, nominees must be located in a school that has an institutional membership in TMSA or must be individual members of TMSA.  To apply for this recognition, please complete the application and briefly respond to the three questions. Limit your responses to two typed pages.

No teacher from a TMSA board member's campus may be nominated for this award. No teacher may be awarded the Outstanding Teacher Award from the Texas Middle School Association more than once every five years, regardless of the region of residency.

The TMSA Annual Conference has been approved by SBEC as a provider of CPE credit. You will receive a Continuing Professional Education form onsite at the conference.

To receive credit for the conference, you simply need to complete that form and return it to your district and follow your district's policies and guidelines.
