KEYNOTE SPEAKER: Marcia Tate FRIDAY GENERAL SESSION 1 9:30 AM - 11:00 AM
Marcia L. Tate, Ed. D. is the former Executive Director of Professional Development for the DeKalb County School System, Decatur, Georgia.
During her 30-year career with the district, she has been a classroom teacher, reading specialist, language arts coordinator, and staff development director. She received the 2001 Distinguished Staff Developer Award for the State of Georgia and her department was chosen to receive the Exemplary Program Award for the state.
Marcia is currently an educational consultant and has taught over 125,000 administrators, teachers, parents, and business and community leaders throughout the world.
She is a member of the Corwin Press Speaker's Bureau and the author of the following three best-sellers: Worksheets Don't Grow Dendrites: 20 Instructional Strategies that Engage the Brain, Sit & Get Won't Grow Dendrites: 20 Professional Learning Strategies that Engage the Adult Brain, and Reading and Language Arts Worksheets Don't Grow Dendrites: 20 Literacy Strategies that Engage the Brain. Participants in her workshops refer to them as the best ones they have ever experienced since Marcia uses the 20 strategies outlined in her books to actively engage her audiences.
Marcia received her bachelor's degree in psychology and elementary education from Spelman College in Atlanta Georgia. She earned her Master's degree in remedial reading from the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, her specialist degree in educational leadership from Georgia State University and her doctorate in educational leadership from Clark Atlanta University. Spelman College awarded her the Apple Award for excellence in the field of education.

KEYNOTE SPEAKER: JACK BERCKEMEYER FRIDAY GENERAL SESSION 2 2:30 PM - 4:00 PM
Jack Berckemeyer is the current Assistant Executive Director for National Middle School Association.
Before moving to Columbus, Ohio, from Denver, Colorado, Jack taught 6th grade at Scott Carpenter Middle School for seven years and at Thunder Ridge Middle School for one year. During his eight years of teaching, Jack taught various subjects including; language arts, social studies, health, expression skills, and physical education. He was named outstanding educator after two years of teaching at Scott Carpenter Middle School, and shortly thereafter he was identified as one of the outstanding educators in the Adams County School District. In 2003, Jack received the Outstanding Alumni Award from the Falcon School District.
Jack has presented to several school districts around the country on middle level topics. He has also presented to middle level educators in thirty different national and international locations. Jack is known for his practical teaching ideas that involve and motivate young adolescents.
Part of Jack's responsibilities for the National Middle School Association is to work with their 58 affiliate organizations throughout the world.
He also is the author and editor of one of NMSA's most popular member benefits, Classroom Connections. Jack also coordinates on-site professional development for schools and school districts. For the last several years Jack has been a judge for the Disney American Teacher Awards and serves on the selection committee for the USA Today All Teacher Team.
