Greetings!
Do you stay away from specifics when you pray? Some would reason that God knows everything we need to pray for even before we ask, so why bother Him with details and specifics?
When we turn to God and ask Him for wisdom, it's not because He doesn't know that we need it. No loving parent will lack any interest in his toddler's "artwork" and a parent's help to improve whatever the child is doing does not diminish his joy and appreciation for the artwork in front of him.
With that said, how do we receive this wisdom? The key is not in what we know, but Whom we know. It's friendship with the One who says, "Call to me and I will answer you, and I will tell you great and mighty things, which you do not know." Jeremiah 33:3
Don't be afraid to be specific in your prayers. The apostle James says, "If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all generously and without reproach." James 1:5 Soon enough, answers will come-Divine Solutions uniquely clever and true to their Source-the kind we'd never conceive on our own.

Good News Is Always Welcome
Every time we get pleasant news, it's not only heartwarming but it "fattens the bones." Pastor Jessie is doing much better and may be going home in a couple of days!
She will continue to do physical rehab at home to mend and get her strength back. She's starting to eat better. Pretty soon she'll be all her natural self again!
Let's continue to praise God for His goodness and pray that both her and Pastor John receive a double portion of His Spirit to guide them through this challenge and to sustain them healthwise and otherwise. |

Call Pastor Hansel
If you are planning to share your story, your talent, a song, an instrumental number or whatever, for this coming Sunday, the First Sunday of the month, please contact Pastor Hansel (626-487-1549)
to let him know, as he is in charge of First Sundays.
We'd like to remind you also that we celebrate Communion on First Sundays. |
One Week To Go
There's just a little over a week to go before the Walnut Family Festival on Saturday, October 13.
There's a large number who have signed up for the parade. We hope several or all of you will also volunteer to help man our booths. Our community service booth will offer a free Blood Pressure and Diabetic Screening. The youth will have a Game Booth in another area.
We also need volunteers to set up the tents on Friday afternoon, October 12, at 4:00 p.m. These tents will be disassembled on Saturday afternoon, around 5:00 p.m. As always, you have always been so generous with your time and sweat! Many thanks. |
An Important Date
You may think we've gone nuts by repeating ourselves in every issue of the GLC Newsletter. But, as they say, life is short, but memory is shorter!
So, just another reminder: Photo Sessions for the full color Church Directory are scheduled by appointment only, on Friday and Saturday, October 19 and 20. You can schedule your appointment online by accessing this link:
If you have no internet access or can't do it yourself, please ask Janice Alano to help you after church this coming Sunday. She will have her iPad with her to help you get your appointment. |

First Fruits
"All the silver and gold and the articles of bronze and iron are sacred to the Lord and must go into His treasury." - Joshua 6:19
One of the earliest examples of the practice of giving God the first fruits of the increase was when Joshua and the people entered the Promised Land for the first time. When they crossed the Jordan River, their first battle was Jericho. God set a precedent with this battle by instructing them not to take any spoils from it. Unlike future battles, the fruits from this victory were to go into the treasury as a remembrance of their first victory in the Promised Land. In addition, the city of Jericho was to be a lasting monument to God's faithfulness. God instructed Joshua never to rebuild this city. If they or anyone in the future attempted to rebuild the city, the life of the firstborn would be required. Years later in the days of King Ahab, Hiel the Bethelite attempted to rebuild this city and his firstborn died as a result. God never forgets to enforce His Word. Is your work a lasting monument to the faithfulness of God in your life? Is it bringing glory to the Father? Are you giving the first fruits from your increase to God? God has encouraged us through this story to give the first fruits of our work to Him so that He will be glorified through our work. This is a tangible way for us to acknowledge that God is the source of all blessing. (Today God Is First (TGIF) devotional message, Copyright by Os Hillman, Marketplace Leaders.) |

| Meditation |
| | What a day, God! Thank You for another day of living. Thank You that You allow me to live it to the fullest; to work my hardest; to love others with a godly love; and allow You to flow through my being and out into my world to draw people to You. May I be a blessing to You and to others today. I love you. Amen. |
