September Theme: Christlikeness | September 26, 2012 |
|
Greetings!
It is difficult to maintain a Godly perspective regarding the mundane issues of our daily lives. In reality, as Christians, we should have the least trouble in managing what goes on, given the fact that the Holy Spirit dwells within us.
Let's adopt the following thoughts: 1) The Lord controls the timing and intensity of my trials. 2) He has a specific purpose for allowing them. 3) They may yield something in me that I lack at present. 4) If I trust God with a joyful attitude, I'll benefit from adversity. 5) Christ wants to demonstrate His ability to sustain me under great pressure. 6) He walks with me every step of the way. 7) Through the power of the Holy Spirit, I'll come out of these trials victorious. (In Touch, January 2012) Our God will bless you and keep you. He will make the light to shine on you. He will be gracious to you, and give you peace.

| Awakening: the mid-week Worship | Pastor L J reminded as on Sunday about the recently introduced mid-week Worship Service dubbed the "Awakening."
It is an opportunity, he said, to be refilled spiritually, in effect. It is designed to develop around a theme each week, and to let the Spirit take it wherever it leads. It allows those who come to share their testimony about the many ways God works in their lives. The "Awakening" is an appropriate lead-in for the Intercessors' Meeting where prayers are sent up for people, for a cause, for a need, or for whatever reason.
Come and join us for this convocation every Wednesday evening at 7:00 p.m. |
| Not Just a Picture Taking | When you come to have your picture taken for the church directory, it isn't just another casual picture taking appointment. The inserts you get in your church bulletin give you an idea how to get ready for your appointed time with a professional photographer.
If you don't have access to the internet, Janice Alano will help you get your appointment this coming Sunday at the fellowship hall. Please do not show up for the photo session without an appointment.
The production of the church directory is a free service of LifeTouch (formerly Olan Mills) which services schools, church groups and others. You will receive a free 8 X 10 portrait, the same one that will appear in the directory. If you desire to order additional prints of the same portrait or of other poses, you will be asked to pay.
Gospel Life will receive a certain number of printed directories for you, and a free online directory is also available for your convenience. |

Fred Lohmann holds the 2nd place trophy awarded to Gospel Life at last year's festival, while Alice Morgan and Sue Lohmann look on. |
Coming up in just a couple of weeks is the annual Walnut Family Festival. This year it is on Saturday, October 13. Gospel Life will join the parade again, and we will have two booths - a community service booth and a game booth.
If you have ideas regarding the Festival Theme of "Rockin' in the Park" please share those with your church staff. So far, the plan is to use "Built Upon the Rock" as our church's theme. Someone suggested using a hand painted display of our church as our young people see it, so we urge our artists to submit their art work on appropriate paper material. Better yet, ask Johnny Chua how he envisions this particular presentation.
The walking distance for the parade is approximately 1.3 miles. There will be at least two, maybe three vehicles that our church will use at the parade.
We ask all who plan to participate in the parade to please sign up on the sheets provided at the church foyer. We also ask for volunteers to help set up and take down the tents for our booths. We need for our medical personnel to volunteer for the Blood Pressure and Diabetic Screening Clinic. |

..."I knew that You are a gracious and compassionate God, slow to anger and abounding in love, a God who relents from sending calamity." Jonah 4:2 - Have you ever gone through a time of disobedience with God? Jonah was a prophet of God who decided he didn't want to prophesy for the Lord. God wanted him to deliver a message to Nineveh to warn them against impending destruction if they didn't turn from their ways. Jonah had developed a hardened heart toward the people of Nineveh. He didn't really care if they repented or not; so rather than travel to Nineveh and deliver the message, he hopped a boat in the opposite direction. You probably know the rest of the story. He was eaten by a fish and spent a few days thinking about his decision. - There is a place where we all will obey. What circumstances must take place for us to become obedient? For some of us, it requires a good shakeup. For Jonah, it required a big shakeup because he was God's man to save 120,000 people. He was chosen by God to be used by God, and God didn't give up on him. God understands our disobedient heart. He sees what we really are; yet He gives second chances. God gave Jonah a second chance. He gave the people of Nineveh a second chance. It is a lesson of love from a heavenly Father who specializes in second chances. Have you blown it? Have you disappointed someone close to you? - God is the God of second chances. All we have to do is acknowledge our waywardness. He will restore. He will give grace. Ask Him. - (Today God Is First (TGIF) devotional message, Copyright by Os Hillman, Marketplace Leaders.) |

Dear God, today I'm thinking about how people try so hard to be independent. We want to be individuals, to "do it myself." It starts when we are children. Then again, we are still children in Your eyes, no matter what our age.
I realize that people really do need each other. We need to support one another emotionally and spiritually...and sometimes physically. We need accountability, and a true friend or loving family member so often provides that.
Thank You for helping me to be willing to help and to be helped. May I be a loving member of the family of God...and a team player in my home, workplace, school, ministry, or wherever I live and serve. In Jesus' name, amen. |
