Greetings!
Our September theme of "Christlikeness" received a boost from Pastor Joannie's Good News Hour message on Sunday.  How does a Christian become just like Christ?  By our own effort, there's no way. When we believe, receive and accept Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior, we are changed in an instant. The robe of Christ's righteousness enfolds us, and in God's sight we appear as though we've never sinned.  All He sees in us is the likeness of Christ!

Loving God, who first loved us, makes us a blessing to our neighbors and to our family. This is our serendipitous service to those around us. We sow seeds of blessings, as the Holy Spirit cultivates us, growing in maturity.  We thrive rooted in His love, and eventually reap a harvest from what He made us sow.

What a wonderful God we have!  We can only offer our human version of praise and thanksgiving to Him from whom all blessings flow!

Mid-week Worship
Tonight will be the first of the newly scheduled Mid-week Worship service beginning at 7:00 p.m.

Pastor L J says it's not going to be like the usual praise and worship that we have on Sunday mornings nor will it be a preaching service, but rather more of a themed meeting, but unstructured, and following what or where the Spirit leads.

Time constraints will be honored such as the start and end of the meeting, as the Intercessory Group meeting immediately follows.

Plans Underway

Soon a Parenting Group meeting will be held twice a month on Wednesdays after the mid-week worship and on alternate Wednesdays the Lion's Den group of graduates (and others who'd like to join) will meet twice a month to continue learning and pushing Kingdom values to the limit.

Wednesdays will turn out to be full of scheduled events for our church to help nurture, encourage, and inspire.

Facets of the Walnut Family Festival

Volunteers are needed to make our participation in the Walnut Family Festival a success.

First off, if you have ideas on motifs, arrangements in our booths, making the parade a productive event, etc., etc., please let us know.  It will really be good to use a mix of vehicles and people walking, banners and posters, articles to distribute along the parade route and whatever else we can device to make this a truly beneficial participation.

The theme for this year's festival is "Rockin' in the Park" so we are also searching for a fitting theme for our use that reflects on the general theme.

We have sign-up sheets for the different facets of our participation in the festival such as for the parade, for the main GLC booth and for the Youth game booth which was a hit last year!  Make sure to join us.  You will not regret it if you do.

Staff Coached

Mr. Robert Porter, the rep from Life Touch, the company that will produce our Church Directory, came to our staff meeting today to appraise us of more details regarding the steps we need to take so that our campaign for everyone in our congregation to join in this effort can be assured.

Photography sessions are scheduled on Friday and Saturday, October 19 and 20. Online scheduling will be utilized and there will be help for those who may not have access to the internet. This will be linked as well to the Gospel Life website.

As previously explained at the Core Group meeting, the service is free to the church and to the congregation. The company makes its money from additional orders of the portraits taken, although the family or single person whose picture is taken for the directory receives a free complimentary 8 X 10 photograph. There will be a printed directory which will also be available online.

Those who have e-mail will receive announcements regarding the campaign. You will see posters regarding this in appropriate areas of the church and in the modular building. Bulletin inserts and other flyers will come your way in the weeks ahead leading up to the scheduled photography sessions. We'd like everyone to be properly informed so no one will miss out on this event.

There is some provision for anyone who for some reason or another cannot make it on the scheduled dates of picture taking, but it may involve a little hassle. Further details will be announced as we approach the dates.

Monthly Fellowship Dinner

Original Thai BBQ

Our next monthly fellowship dinner is coming real soon: next week Tuesday, September 18 at the Original Thai BBQ restaurant in West Covina, in the SeaFood City area at Amar Rd. and Azusa Avenue.

We've been there at least once before and the food was good.  Last month's dinner was held at the Capital Seafood Restaurant in Rowland Heights. Invite your family members and friends, as well as members of your small group fellowship who are not coming to our church.

Please call Johnny Chua to make your reservations at 909-228-2162.

Bad Alliances

"Woe to the obstinate children," declares the Lord, "to those who carry out plans that are not Mine, forming an alliance, but not by My Spirit, heaping sin upon sin; who go down to Egypt without consulting Me; who look for help to Pharaoh's protection, to Egypt's shade for refuge." Isaiah 30:1-2

Have you ever entered a business relationship with someone you knew you were not supposed to? Throughout the history of Israel, the people were called to come out of an old way of life. Egypt represented that old way; when things got tough, the Israelites reverted to what was comfortable. They always knew they could take a trip to Egypt and find what they lacked. Perhaps this was their reasoning: "If we can't get it accomplished under the new way, why not go back to the way we used to do it? At least we know we can get it there."

-

When God calls us into a walk of faith, we can expect to be tested in this walk. If we enter into alliances that God has not ordained, it will only bring heartache. Such was the case for Israel. "But Pharaoh's protection will be to your shame, Egypt's shade will bring you disgrace" (Is. 30:3).

-

Beware what you perceive as an alliance that may advance your business. It may actually bring you great distress if God has not directed you to align it. Ask yourself what the motive is behind this possible alliance. Make sure that it is not based on fear or a quick fix. Get confirmation that God is leading you to make such an alliance. Then you will not end up in the way of Israel, experiencing shame and disgrace.

Meditation

"Oh God, I want to KNOW You. You are so great and do great things. I want to spend more time with You. Help me to make time to sit before Your throne in quiet places, to read Your Word in order to know You more intimately, to develop an ear to hear Your voice so that I know when to turn to the right or to the left. I trust You to guide me in all things."
