Learn What Your Spiritual Gift(s) Is (Are)!
Greetings!

When you do some specific thing for your family, for the community or for your church, is it because that is your spiritual gift, or is it a natural talent, a result of your training or background or something you just love to do?

It pays to know what your spiritual gift is.  Many times you may find yourself doing things that you think you are gifted with when in fact that is not your gift. Not that this type of mismatch could not result in anything positive or productive, but you might do a lot better and find a more appropriate fit when you actually know what that spiritual gift is that you are blessed with.

There are lessons available that can be learned in the small group setting.  Perhaps the small group leaders can arrange for these lessons to be taught again in their groups.  It is an exercise worth going through.

Knowing Your Neighbors

Do you really know your neighbors?  This was probably the basic question proferred at the Men's Breakfast meeting last Saturday morning when Scott Chang, founder of the Faith-Based Business Networking International, spoke  to the group. The Women's Ministry group was also there to hear him speak.

Scott is essentially endorsing a model of a neighborhood "self-help" project in which neighbors in a certain area, or a certain street or location, become familiar with each other through periodic park picnics or potluck gatherings.  This is started by announcing through a sign posted at one's front yard, for example, asking neighbors to visit a particular website where the announcement for a neighborhood "potluck" in a nearby park is posted.  Those who show up at the initial gathering and in subsequent ones can become partners or members in what is now tentatively called the "GS9" which is an acronym for "Good Samaritan 911."

The concept is that in the event of any emergency in one's household, neighbors can most likely respond quicker than when one summons help by dialing 911. By fostering this method of getting to know one's neighbors, it will probably become a preferable way to get first responders to one's doors much faster, even before the regular 911 responders arrive.

He has other information that may be related to expanding this concept, but he said it would take another talk to cover these.

The meeting was well attended, and the Women's Ministry group may be formally organizing themselves soon to become one of the active ministries for the ladies of Gospel Life.

The men's group is planning for a "mini men's retreat" on September 21 and 22. Details will be announced later, but please note this down in your calendars, men!

Another Basic 10 Class Soon

Plans are underway to start another Keys to the Kingdom (Basic 10) class for those who have not attended one in the past, or as a refresher to those who have taken the course once before but would like to take it again.

The class will most likely start sometime in September.  Please watch out for details regarding where and when it is taught.  You may want to plan on inviting friends or family members to come and join you for this class.

Giving is a Ministry

The ministry of giving is given only to those who give themselves first.

2 Corinthians 8:5-7 (CEV)  "And they did more than we had hoped.  They gave themselves first to the Lord and then to us, just as God wanted them to do.

"Titus was the one who got you started doing this good thing, so we begged him to have you finish what you had begun.

"You do everything better than anyone else.  You have stronger faith. You speak better and know more.  You are eager to give, and you love us better.  Now you must give more generously than anyone else."

Performing Miracles with Your Staff

"But take this staff in your hand so you can perform miraculous signs with it." - Exodus 4:17

-

What is the staff God has put into your hand? Is it being a builder? Is it being an office worker? Is it being a doctor? Moses' staff represented his vocation as a shepherd. God had something in mind for his vocation - to perform miracles. And awesome miracles He did! God turned the Nile river into blood with the touch of the staff. He turned the staff into a snake. He parted the Red Sea with it. These are just a few of the miracles God did with that staff.

-

When we yield our talents and abilities to the Lord, God can perform miracles through them. First, Moses had to yield what He had in his hand to God. Only after this took place could God use that staff. As long as Moses held onto it, God could not and would not perform miracles through it.

-

Until we come to this place with our heavenly Father, we will fail to see miracles performed in our work. He delights in showing His power through us. When we become an open vessel, we can expect to see things happen.

-

Have you given your staff to the Lord? Offer it to Him and see what He might want to do through it. Your life will never be the same.

Meditation

Lord, thank you for making me a blessing. I present myself to you, a living sacrifice, for ministry to the world. I pray that I would see others through your eyes of love and concern and that I would ask myself "What would Jesus do?"

Thank you for reminding me of the times I have been selfish or apathetic, for the times I have missed out on the opportunity to minister and be a blessing. Thank you for taking care of all the people in my family and community who need a blessing right now;  for Christians around the world who need your hand of blessing right now.

Lord, you know the need. You are good, all the time. I pray that in your mercy, you will reach out in the way you know best and meet those needs, uplift those spirits, bless those souls, for your glory. In Jesus name, amen.
