Greetings!

In the midst of our special event, the week of fasting and prayer, we ask the Lord to give us joy in our service and that everything we do would be infused with Spirit-led prayer.

Pray for health, for our financial needs, for our families.  Pray above all for the fiscal challenges we have as a church and for our continuing aim to reach the unsaved in our homes and in our communities. Ask God to provide us with even greater opportunities to connect with more individuals who are looking and seeking for the truth.

As we pray, let's be ever grateful for the freedom Christ gave us through His shed blood and for the victorious resurrection lives we've inherited through Him.

PRAYER WARRIORS

Each evening this week, the church sanctuary is open at 6:30 p.m. to allow the Prayer Warriors to gather together in a special season of prayer during our Week of Fasting and Prayer.  So far the response is reported to be quite encouraging as those who come to pray with a unified purpose experience even more than they expect.

We give thanks for the privilege of being members of God's family and the joy that comes from praying and fellowshipping together with other believers.

MEN & WOMEN'S GROUPS

BREAK BREAD TOGETHER

The Men's Breakfast Meeting and the Women's Ministry groups will join at breakfast on Saturday next week,
July 21, at 8:30 a.m.

Those who lead out among these two church groups have previously decided to do the breakfast together and then do their respective meetings separately.  However, at the last meeting in May, both groups decided to listen to a testimony by a local business leader, George Rivera, regarding how he has brought Christianity to the marketplace, in his own business enterprise.

The next meeting will be somewhat similar, in that, an invited guest speaker, Scott Chang, founder of the Faith-Based Business Network International, will address the group regarding his own experience in incorporating Christian values into the workplace.

This will be another good chance to invite business people and others to come and join our Men & Women's groups not only for this upcoming meeting but for future meetings and projects in queue.
Cabrera tableMONTHLY FELLOWSHIP DINNER
In deference to our special week of fasting and prayer, and because there are other things going on that make our schedules a little crowded this month, the monthly fund-raising fellowship dinner will be postponed till next month.

These monthly dinners have been an avenue by which further bonding is enhanced between those who attend Gospel Life Community and their friends.  Johnny and Nellie Chua have been able to arrange with all the restaurants we've been to, for fifty per cent of our ticket cost to revert back as a donation to the church.

We'll take a break this month, and go back to it in August!

Embracing the Lean Times

"But blessed is the man who trusts in the Lord, whose confidence is in Him." - Jeremiah 17:7

Have you ever considered at what point a test becomes so difficult that you decide you can no longer trust in God and you must take over to solve the problem? The prophet Jeremiah describes a situation in which the temptation to solve a financial problem can become so great that we trust in man's way to solve it.

This is what the Lord says: "Cursed is the one who trusts in man, who depends on flesh for his strength and whose heart turns away from the Lord. He will be like a bush in the wastelands; he will not see prosperity when it comes. He will dwell in the parched places of the desert, in a salt land where no one lives. But blessed is the man who trusts in the Lord, whose confidence is in Him. He will be like a tree planted by the water that sends out its roots by the stream. It does not fear when heat comes; its leaves are always green. It has no worries in a year of drought and never fails to bear fruit" (Jeremiah 17:5-8).

Jeremiah drew a sharp comparison between the man who trusts in his own effort to solve his problem and the man who trusts in God when he cannot see the outcome. The man who trusts in God bears fruit despite the circumstances in his life. He does not shrivel when the heat comes; in fact, his roots go deeper into God's grace. He continues to bear fruit in spite of his circumstances.

Recently, a friend from South Africa explained to me that whenever a plant lives in an arid climate, the roots drive deeper and deeper into the soil to get the water they need. This forces the plant to develop a root system that is far beyond the normal plant because it is forced to go deeper to gain the water it needs.

Sometimes God forces us to go deeper into the grace of His love in order to build a greater foundation in our own lives. These lean times are designed to accomplish this in us. If you find yourself in this condition, ask the Lord who provides the water for our soul for the grace you need today to continue to bear fruit in the desert.

Meditation

Dear God, I desire to do as Your Word instructs, and let "no corrupt word proceed from my mouth, but only what is good for necessary edification, that it may impart grace to the hearers."

I do not want to "grieve the Holy Spirit, by whom I was sealed for the day of redemption." I pray that I will "let all bitterness, wrath, anger, clamor, and evil speaking be put away from me. And I want to be kind to one another, tender-hearted, forgiving one another, even as You in Christ Jesus forgave me. Oh that I would always be an imitator of You as a dear child.

"May I walk in love, as a child of light, finding what is acceptable to you."  I want to please you and be more like Jesus.Thank You in the name of Jesus. Amen. (in part from Ephesians 5)
