Greetings!

Our experience in receiving a spiritual revival in the last three weeks gave us individually and corporately a boost that we truly needed.  To be reminded and refreshed about our concept of Jesus as the Bible portrays Him is something that wasn't only uplifting and encouraging but also challenging in the sense that we are made to confront old and probably fallacious ideas we have had about Him, entrenched in our minds through years of unenlightened and blind belief about things we were taught in another "lifetime."

Now we can walk in a better light and understanding of who we believe in and what we now know about Him.  God be praised!

Let's pray that the "shot in the arm" we got from the Jesus Seminar will continue to inspire, invigorate and propel us into expanding our borders just as Jabez prayed for in ancient times (see 1 Chronicles 4:9-10).

KINGDOM CULTURE

A Relational Community

You have heard much about "Kingdom Culture" in recent months.  A couple of weeks ago, you read in a back issue

of the Newsletter that Kingdom Culture "is the environment that surrounds us, the influences that we allow to form the milieu in which we live and thrive" and that "it is the kind of heavenly culture that is fostered by the way our beliefs, values and attitudes are exercised."

Gospel Life Community likes to be called a loving community. Do you and I live up to that description?  Have you ever stopped to think what being a part of a loving community truly means? When we say that our community structure, programs and activities are relationship-based and purpose-driven, do we pass the test?

Much is said and heard about inconsistent attendance, lack of dedication, inadequate planning or any number of negative characterizations about OUR community, but when you or I say these things, it is OUR community we're talking about! Are you or I part of the problem, or part of the solution?

Think about these things.  If we are to see greater accomplishments than Jesus Christ did, as he predicted in His day, then we need to continue to cultivate and foster the Kingdom Culture that we talk about so freely.

Let's be kind to one another. "You will be well rewarded for saying something kind, but all some people think about is how to be cruel and mean.  Keep what you know to yourself, and you will be safe; talk too much, and you are done for."   Proverbs 13:2-3 CEV

The Fallacy of Full-Time Christian Work

"Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for men, since you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward. It is the Lord Christ you are serving." - Colossians 3:23-24

"I didn't know you were in full-time Christian work," said my close friend as we were driving. "I didn't realize that," she went on. I responded, "Every person who has followed the will of God in their life is in full-time Christian work." God calls some to the mission field, others to be accountants, and others to be advertising executives, and still others to be construction workers. God never made a distinction between sacred and secular. In fact, the Hebrew word avodah is the root word having the same meaning of "work" and "worship." God sees our work as worship.

We have incorrectly elevated the role of the Christian worker to be more holy and committed than the person who is serving in a more secular environment. Yet the call to the secular workplace is as important as any other calling. God has to have His people in every sphere of life. Otherwise, many would never come to know Him because they would be separated from society.

I learned this lesson personally when I sought to go into "full-time" service as a pastor in my late twenties, only to have God thrust me back into the business world unwillingly. This turned out to be the best thing He could have done for me, because it was never His will for me to be a pastor. He knew I was more suited for the workplace.

We are all in missions. Some are called to foreign lands. Some are called to the jungles of the workplace. Wherever you are called, serve the Lord in that place. Let Him demonstrate His power through your life so that others might experience Him through you today and see your vocation as worship to His glory.

Meditation

Dear God, today I want to ask for Your protection and blessing upon Christian leaders around the world. Thank You for giving wisdom and guidance, and surrounding them with Your angels.

I pray for pastors, missionaries, and other church leaders; for Christian heads of governments; for teachers and parents; for social and relief workers; for every kind of leader that is out there doing Your work, Your will, Your ministry.

I lift them up to You, for their tasks are difficult. Thank You for blocking the evil one's  attempts to harm them or sidetrack them. Help them to stay focused on the tasks and the missions to which You have called them. Thank You, Lord. In Jesus' name, amen.
