Greetings!
In the last newsletter, we spent a little time in the area of the "Christ-centered lifestyle" and the "Kingdom Culture." These are terms we have heard repeatedly and increasingly more in the last several months. Do we have a sufficiently clear understanding of these phrases?
Speaking of a Christ-centered lifestyle, it is, simply put, a lifestyle that revolves around Christ, whose center is the way He lived, the way he reacted to those around Him, the way He treated people. It is being conscious of everything that issues from you and me to those who are touched in one way or another by our influence, in our words and actions--in what we do or don't do.
Kingdom Culture, on the other hand, is the environment that surrounds us, the influences that we allow to form the milieu in which we live and thrive. It is not an endpoint in our experience: it is the kind of heavenly culture that is fostered by the way our beliefs, values and attitudes are exercised.
We all need to be proficient in modeling the Christ-centered lifestyle and living the Kingdom Culture that we speak of, but only as we allow the Holy Spirit to weave these virtues into every aspect of our lives are we empowered to become what Jesus, our Lord and Savior, sees us to be.

FINAL WEEKEND The Jesus Seminars will enter its closing weekend beginning on Friday, May 18, at 7:30 p.m. Pastor John's topic will be "The Insider: How Jesus Empowers Us." At 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 19, the subject is "Destination: Jesus: What Jesus Planned for Us. Finally on Sunday the 20th, during the Good News Hour at 11:00 a.m., "Jesus Culture: How Jesus Becomes Real to People" is the title of the message. Every one of the topics elucidated by Pastor John has been a powerful, succinct, clear and readily understandable exposition in discovering (or being reminded of) the Jesus of the Bible. It doesn't matter if one decides to catch one or more of these last three lectures, because each one has a specific message unto itself. If you are able to make it to one of them, it will be a blessing to you. If you can make it to all three, then you will be blessed threefold or more. If you have been reticent about inviting your family members, friends, neighbors, coworkers, business partners, etc. now is the time to do it. Who knows, the message they hear this time might be the perfect words for them to hear at this late part of the series! |
OUR DINNER DATE It sure sneaks up on us. Our monthly fellowship dinner is going to be a special one because it celebrates the Jesus Seminars as they are concluded and also because we are sending off our Senior and Founding Pastors John and Jessie to the Philippines yet another time! Instead of our usual third Tuesday of the month dinner event, we are having our fund-raising fellowship dinner on a Sunday, this coming Sunday, the 20th, and only this month, to allow everyone to participate and enjoy the fellowship. Please call Johnny Chua (909-228-2162) or e-mail him (johnchua@earthlink.net) to make your reservations. If your decision to attend has to be last minute, you can still be accomodated. Just show up at Asia Buffet at the southeast corner of the Gale Avenue (18268 Gale Ave.) and Fullerton Road intersection in the City of Industry. |

MARKETPLACE MINISTRY
Spirit-led Creativity
"He gave him the plans of all that the Spirit had put in his mind for the courts of the temple of the LORD and all the surrounding rooms, for the treasuries of the temple of
God and for the treasuries for the dedicated things" (1 Chron 28:12).
It is said of George Washington Carver that he got up early in the morning each day to walk alone and pray. He asked God how he was to spend his day and what He wanted to teach him that day. Carver grew up at the close of the Civil War in a one-room shanty on the home of Moses Carver- the man who owned his mother. The Ku Klux Klan had abducted him and his mother, selling her to new owners. He was later found and returned to his owner, but his mother was never seen again.
Carver grew up at the height of racial discrimination, yet he had overcome all these obstacles to become one of the most influential men in the history of the United States.
He made many discoveries with the use of peanuts and sweet potatoes. However, after he recommended farmers to plant peanuts and sweet potatoes instead of cotton, he was led into his greatest trial. The farmers lost even more money due to the lack of market demand for peanuts and sweet potatoes. Carver cried out to the Lord, "Mr. Creator, why did You make the peanut?" Many years later, he shared that God led him back to his lab and worked with him to discover some 300 marketable products from the peanut. Likewise, he made over 100 discoveries from the sweet potato. These new products created a demand for peanuts and sweet potatoes, and they were major contributors to rejuvenating the Southern economy.
As he made new discoveries, he never became successful monetarily. But during his lifetime, he overcame great rejection for being black. He was offered six-figure income opportunities from Henry Ford, and he became friends with presidents of his day, yet he knew what God had called him to do.
His epitaph read: "He could have added fortune to fame, but caring for neither, he found happiness and honor in being helpful to the world."
Like Carver, each of us must connect with our primary purpose in life. Pray that God allows you to fully fulfill your purpose.

Dear Lord, thank You for giving me the insight as to how to use the tools You have given me--whether spiritual gifts, talents, skills, work place or other--as a ministry in daily life. I don't just want to work, take care of my self and my family, my dwelling place, and participate in church life. I want to actually have a mind of ministry to do Your will and impact lives for You.
Thank You for moving and ministering through my life to accomplish Your purpose. Thank You. In Jesus' name, amen.
