Dear (Contact First Name),

It is not often that we have the luxury of holding an evangelistic seminar such as we now have with the "Debt Eraser" seminar. Pastor John has truly afforded us a clear and understandable approach to know the Jesus of the Bible through the Holy Spirit working through him and in us.

The last three meetings over the weekend left us desiring to hear more, and this coming weekend is our chance to avail ourselves again of this opportunity.

The times of the meetings are posted in the bannerhead above.  Let's invite our family members, friends, neighbors, coworkers, clients and customers to attend.  They do not have to commit for the rest of the series.  If they are able to attend a session or two, or all of the remaining ones, it's their choice.  The work of understanding, conviction and transformation in them is not ours but the Holy Spirit's.

Let's continue to pray for God's grace and blessing on Pastor John and on all who are challenged by the things they hear and witness.

Coming Down to the Wire

Our Men's Breakfast Meeting will be held this coming Saturday morning.  Just reminding all our men to come and join us for this event.  All the ladies are invited as well. In view of Mother's Day being next Sunday, it will be our honor to serve the ladies breakfast. But one doesn't have to be a mother to attend.

The men can bring a favorite breakfast dish or two when they come. We have done it this way in the past and we've always had more than enough food for everyone!

There are plans to start a Women's Ministry group and this occasion might be the catalyst for its formation.  See Linda Santos if you have any questions or suggestions.

Date: May 12, Saturday
Time: 8:30 AM
Location: Fellowship Hall, GLC

Minor Change Regarding Our Monthly Dinner

In order to celebrate the conclusion of the Jesus Seminar whose last meeting is on that Sunday, and to serve as another send-off to our senior pastors John and Jessie, who plan to leave for the Philippines on the 22nd, our monthly fellowship dinner will be held on May 20, Saturday, at 6:30 p.m.

We will have our fund-raising fellowship dinner at the Asia Buffet located at 18268 Gale Avenue, at the corner of Fullerton Road, City of Industry 91748. Families may want to plan to attend the dinner together with their children or other family members.  We will also invite our friends who are attending the seminar to join us. Do plan to invite members of your bible study groups, too.

Please start making your reservations with Johnny and Nellie Chua (909-228-2162).  Let's thank both of them for not getting tired of making sure that proper arrangements with the different restaurants we go to are taken care of well in advance, and making sure that at least 50% of what we contribute goes back to GLC for designated projects.

"If you abide in my word, then you are truly disciples of mine." (John 8:31 NASB, 1978 edition)

In order to build your life on the Bible, it must become the authoritative standard for your life. It must become the compass you rely on for direction, the counsel you listen to for making wise decisions, and the benchmark you use for evaluating everything.

The Bible must always have the first and last word in your life.

Many of our troubles occur because we base our choices on unreliable authorities: culture ("Everyone is doing it"), tradition ("We've always done it"), reason ("It seemed logical"), or emotion ("It just felt right"). Yet, what we need is a perfect standard that will never lead us in the wrong direction. Only God's Word meets that need: "Every word of God is flawless" (Proverbs 30:5a NIV).

The most important decision you can make today is to settle this issue of what will be the ultimate authority for your life. Decide that regardless of culture, tradition, reason, or emotion, you choose the Bible as your final authority. When making decisions, determine to first ask, "What does the Bible say?" Resolve that when God says to do something, you will trust God's Word and do it whether or not it makes sense or you feel like doing it.

Talk About It

  • Based on the current way you make decisions, who or what is the ultimate authority in your life?
  • How would your life change if you always gave God's Word the final say? (Or, how has your life changed since giving God's Word the final say?)

 Pray Without Ceasing

You have a prayer  list most likely, either written down or in your head.  When you pray, do not forget the name(s) you drew that Pastors Prom and Norma asked you to pray over.  They are pastors and loeaders in Gospel Life's churches in the Philippines who need your intercessory prayers.

And then there's the need to pray for our own set of church leaders who need to be encouraged, supported and blessed.  Let's pray, too, for anyone who may be interested to help take care of the children's division; for our church finances; for understanding, patience, and a charitable attitude among us; for the building up rather than the tearing down of the body of Christ. Pray for our Global Outreach ministries and for the linkages and affiliations that are presently developing in the Philippines, including the realization of a Ministry and Leadership Institute and a School of the Supernatural over there.

There are many other areas and aspects of Gospel Life Community for which our corporate and individual prayers are solicited. Include them all in your prayers during your quiet times, in your daily devotions.

The church staff continues to grow in emulating the five-fold ministries modeled by Christ and His disciples for all of us to follow and be aware of. To do this, the responsibilities are shared among the pastoral staff.  When there are concerns, suggestions, or items that need clarification, do not hesitate to share them with the staff who can bring them up at our staff meetings, if needed, and when appropriate these can be taken up during our core group meetings.

Let's always reflect the love of Jesus in our interactions with each other and let's all keep praying for each other, for Gospel Life, and for the body of Christ as a whole.

The Church Staff consists of the following:  Executive Minister - Pastor Joanna Alano;  Minister for Nurture - Pastor Hansel Orzame;  Minister for Fellowship and Outreach - Pastor Conrad Miranda;  Minister for Discipleship - Pastor Tony Luciano; and Assistant Minister - Pastor Leonard (L J) Dijamco, Jr.

Meditation

Dear God, thank You for making me aware of so many people who just work for a paycheck, serve in some position out of duty, "buck" the system, and just do not have the right attitudes in work, ministry, school...and life in general. This is something I cannot be proud of, but I am thankful because You are able to help them, and help me, to work, minister, and live life with the attitude of following what Your will is for me, being sincere and doing my very best, but only because You allow me to do that.

Thank You for making me appreciative of my employers or of my coworkers, thankful for my "shepherds," supportive of those who lead, and respectful to those who teach. Thank you for hearing my prayer, in the name of Jesus, amen.
