NEWSLETTER        MONDAY EDITION
April 23, 2012
Greetings!

Our Jesus Seminars, the evangelistic outreach series of meetings to be conducted by Pastor John, will start in barely two weeks. Let's invite our family members, neighbors and friends to come and listen to the messages as they unfold the whys and wherefores of Jesus' ministry while He walked on this earth.

Remember the Great Commission in Matthew 28:18 (CEV) - "I have been given all authority in heaven and on earth! Go to the people of all nations and make them my disciples.  Baptize them in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, and teach them to do everything I have told you.  I will be with you always, even until the end of the world."

Pray for this event as we mail out invitations to our neighborhood, that the recipients will respond to the Holy Spirit as He speaks to them about this; for all of us to be channels through which He works to give an encouraging word or show a kind deed to those not of our church who will come through our doors; and for Pastor John to be used by Him in a mighty way as he brings Jesus to each and every person seeking for the greatest "Debt Eraser" the world has ever known.

Debt Eraser

A catchy logo appears on the flyers we are mailing out for the Jesus Seminars. The picture of the partially erased word "Debt" appears next to an obviously used pencil eraser to depict the  phrase "Debt Eraser" as a symbolism of Jesus, the One who erases our "debts" (or, our sins).

As mentioned above, the seminars will begin on Friday, May 4th, and will continue for a total of 9 sessions for the succeeding three weekends:  on Fridays at 7:30 p.m., on Saturdays at 3:00 p.m., and on
Sundays at 11:00 a.m.

We are looking for a large turnout not only among our congregation but especially among those who will come through your invitation and through the flyers received in the mail and from our door to door distribution this coming Sunday.

Prepare to Volunteer

A lot of volunteers are needed for this coming Sunday afternoon, after the fellowship lunch.  A second distribution of our invitation/flyer for the Jesus Seminars will be done by those of us who will go around our local neighborhoods to deliver them from door to door.  The first distribution took place today when we mailed approximately 3600 pieces of mail to as many households within a half mile of Gospel Life Community.

Please bring your walking shoes on Sunday.  Each volunteer will be given a map or outline of his or her territory in which the invitations will be brought to each household's door. Members of our congregation who leave locally may wish to deliver the invitation at another time more convenient for them as long as it is within a couple of days from next Sunday, the 29th.

Those who live some distance from our church will want to go ahead and join those who will go from an assigned area to another next Sunday, as they are already in the area to help in the door-to-door distribution of the invitations/flyers.

Community of Worship

We received more blessings from yesterday's Good News Hour when Pastor Joannie brought another invigorating message on the "Community of Worship."

She likened this to a symphony where each member of the congregation is part of the whole worship experience and contributes to this "journey into God."  She enumerated three aspects of corporate worship, namely, a) vertical, when we connect with God; b) horizontal, when we connect with each other, and c) internal, when we are transformed into His image.

Not only are we to become a group of worshipers in community but also be affirmed in our unity in Christ as we worship together, she pointed out.

The sermon yesterday is part of this month's theme:  Intimacy with God.

An Artist Among Us

Aaron Alcaraz was one of the leading characters in the play "Schoolhouse Rock" where he performed his song, dance and drama routines on Saturday, April 21.

The setting was at the San Gabriel Mission Playhouse at 320 S. Mission Drive, in San Gabriel, CA.

Aaron is part of the group Theater Experience of Southern California and has been performing with them for quite some time.

Marketplace Ministry

Market Resistance

"If any of you lacks wisdom, he should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to him"(James 1:5-6).

Have you ever heard someone say, "He was before his time?" There are many examples of people who invented a product or service in a time when the market was not ready to embrace the product yet. Other things had to develop before the product could be a success.

George Washington Carver experienced this. Born around 1861 during the Civil War, he was a man who should have been a victim to his circumstances. Discriminated against constantly, he lost his mother to slave traders. As a young boy he cried out to God in the midst of his circumstances and God heard him. God gave George an indomitable persevering spirit and he was highly motivated to learn.

Carver discovered that Southern farmers who planted cotton for hundreds of years needed to plant a new crop because the soil had worn out and the farmers were going into interminable debt as a result. To restore the soil Carver advised the planting of peanuts and sweet potatoes instead of cotton. After much persuasion, planters gradually increased their peanut and sweet potato acreage, until these became the number-one crops in the South. However, there was not substantial market for the peanuts and sweet potatoes. Forced to let the product rot in the fields, the farmers ended up losing more money then before.

This situation placed a great deal of pressure on Carver. He took the problem to God in prayer and said, "Mr. Creator, why did You make the peanut?" Many years later, he shared that God led him back to his lab and worked with him to discover some 300 marketable products from the peanut including lard, mayonnaise, cheese, shampoo, instant coffee, flour, sop, face powder, plastics, adhesives, axle grease, and pickles.

Likewise, from the sweet potato he made more than 100 discoveries, among them starch, library paste, vinegar, shoe blacking, ink, and molasses. Because of these new products, the demand for peanuts and sweet potatoes grew and literally transformed the Southern economy.*

Has God made you an inventor? Ask him to help you bring your product to market.

MEDITATION

Dear God, I worship You and lift up my praise to You, my Creator and Sustainer. Thank You for showing me the things that bind me on this earth.

Open my eyes that I may always be mindful of what may hold me in bondage knowing that only through You am I victorious. Thank You for helping me to break free and to experience total freedom in You.

Thank You, my gracious God. In the name of my Savior I pray. Amen.
