Greetings!

Some exciting things are coming up in the Gospel Life Community calendar!  When you learn about them, be sure to let our other congregants know, or encourage them to look these things up in their e-mail, perchance they're not in the habit of checking them.

Our "open" rates for e-mail that goes out is approximately 30%.  That's too low, really.  Of course, the ones who need to know are not reading their e-mail. So make it a habit to talk to your fellow church members about what you found, learned or saw from your most recent e-mail from GLC. That simple act might just be what they need to look at their own e-mail themselves.

In this day and age, if one has an e-mail account and doesn't even open it, he or she cannot really be excused from not looking at it.  True, there might be a bunch of junk in it, but "throwing the baby with the bath water" isn't the answer.

So, please tell our readership to turn their computers on and read their e-mail, if it's just to look at the ones that come from Gospel Life Community!

The Church Staff
NO FOOD TRUCKS THIS TIME

The group that gathered last night at the Maxim Cafe for our monthly fund-raising fellowship dinner were no less lively or joyful despite the fact that they were fewer in number.

Someone had called the restaurant earlier probably to say they were unable to come, but was misunderstood so that the restaurant staff thought the event was cancelled. It was a slight snafu that was quickly corrected by the restaurant staff and the group had an enjoyable evening together, anyway, in spite of the slight delay.

As usual, there were lively conversations going on around the dinner tables. For most, it was a good evening to be with church friends, to know each other better, to bond more, and to exchange anecdotes about their daily experiences.

Let's all look forward to the next one in April.  We don't know yet when we will have the food trucks again.

PASTOR JOHN TO HOLD EVANGELISTIC SERIES

Our Senior Pastor John Tulio has scheduled an evangelistic series on the three weekends of May beginning on May 4th.  The series will be open to the public and preparations are under way to disseminate information and details regarding the series.  Meetings are scheduled on Friday evenings, late Saturday afternoons and Sunday mornings.

E-mail received from Pastor John encourages our core group members to be actively involved in inviting people to this series of meetings and to design a strategy that will be effective as non-member attendees are followed up after the evangelistic series is over.

Both Pastors John and Jessie will be returning for these meetings.  In the meantime, continuing progress in developing relationships with certain groups in the Metro Manila area is being reported.  Details will be published whenever reports are received.

He serves as webmaster of our church's website, http://www.gospellifecommunity.org.

God versus Mammon

"No one can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one and love the other, or else he will be loyal to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and mammon." (Matt 6:24 NKJV)

The New Testament contains 2,084 verses dealing with money and finance. Sixteen of Jesus' thirty-eight parables deal with money. The reason Jesus spoke so much about money was because He was always trying to see where a person's loyalty resided. "For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also" (Matt 6:21 NKJV). He said a person could not serve two masters. Instead, he will love one but hate the other.

Many people believe money is synonymous with mammon. This is incorrect. Mammon is an Aramaic demonic spirit that was worshipped as a false god by the Philistines. Mammon desires to be worshipped, have influence, and control of peoples' lives to require love and devotion through the use of money. Money is simply the instrument by which mammon seeks to have power.

Any spirit that opposes God seeks to influence people through deception. It wants to gain loyalty and love without you knowing it has done so. The primary lie behind the spirit of mammon is that money contains power. It encourages people to place disproportionate value on money because of the power it has to influence and control others.

The symptoms of being controlled by the spirit of mammon are revealed when we allow our activities to be governed by the amount of money we have instead of God alone. It makes us believe one's provision is his/her employer, spouse, investments, or other money source. So, when we allow money to rule the choices in our lives we have yielded to the spirit of mammon. This leads to other problems as Paul writes to Timothy: "For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil. Some people, eager for money, have wandered from the faith and pierced themselves with many griefs." (1 Tim 6:10)

Today, ask God if you have been influenced by the spirit of mammon. If so, renounce it and place your total trust in Christ as your source for all provision.

INTERCESSORY PRAYER

We received an e-mail from Pastors Prom and Norma Amoguis requesting intercessory prayers for the pastors and leaders in the 15 Gospel Life churches and affiliates in the Philippines. Our Prayer Ministry team is being notified of this request and a sheet will be posted in the foyer showing the names of the churches and their leaders for whom prayers are requested.

Pastor Norma requested that the sheet be returned to her with the names of our congregants who will sign up as prayer sponsors or prayer warriors for the people on this list. Kindly volunteer to become a prayer sponsor.  You may be asked to draw a name to sponsor, so that no one will be left without a prayer sponsor.

Thank you very much for participating.

JESUS CULTURE

As the dates for the Jesus Culture youth outreach ministry comes closer, it becomes more urgent that those who plan to attend the coming meetings at the Nokia Theater in Los Angeles purchase their admission tickets as early as possible.

Pastor L J is trying to get good seating for the group that comes from Gospel Life.  Youth leaders who will commit to attending may have the cost paid up front for them if the money is short for now, but you have to talk with Pastor L J. The outreach meetings are to be held on August 2 to 4.

MEDITATION

Dear God, sometimes I feel like I have poured myself into something or someone, and worked and fought for a cause, only to see no fruits for my labors. It all seemed in vain. But I know that You can work in all of that to fulfill a greater purpose.

Thank You for not allowing the labor of my heart and hands to be in vain. I pray that all I do would be as unto You and for a good purpose and eternal value. Please bless the works of my heart and hands for Your glory and empower me with wisdom and insight through Your Holy Spirit.

Thank You for guiding me every step and every day, to have a part in reaching this world for You and ministering to those I love whom You also love.  In Jesus' name, amen.
