Join Us for the CORE GROUP MEETING
this Sunday, March 4, at 2:00 p.m. |
Greetings!
The opportunity arises to serve God, and the Lord asks you, Will you go for me? How do you answer? Do you say, "I can't, Lord," or will you have an excuse like, "My schedule is too busy," or do you tell Him, "I don't know how." Or, perhaps, you give a lame reason like, "I'm just a layperson, not a pastor!"
We've mentioned once before that refusing to serve God is a form of idolatry. Why? Because bowing down to self instead of submitting to Him is! Anything or anyone you put ahead of God is an idol to you.
Service to God happens in the most trivial of things that we do, as well as in more important aspects of our lives, such as when we train our children as they grow up, or when we interact with coworkers at our places of work, or as we listen to a friend who's unburdening to us. When we help serve the food to feed the homeless, when we teach in the children's division, when we cook some dish to take to our fellowship lunch, that is part of our service to God.
"Laying down our excuses is the wisest thing we can do to serve the Lord. Trust that He will empower you to do whatever He calls you to do -- and He will see to it that you are properly empowered and trained. All He asks of you is to say yes." Charles Stanley

OUR SENIOR PASTORS
DOING WHAT GOD WANTS THEM TO DO
We heard an update from Pastors John and Jessie who are doing their missionary work in the Philippines. They are getting started on many activities that will expand God's Kingdom in that part of the world.
They are beginning to hook up with groups of believers who have shown interest in learning and in being taught what it takes to be the followers of Jesus.
Pastor John is developing a Kingdom Culture Transformation Strategy for the Philippines which would tackle the "seven mountains" of family, entertainment, government/law, business/finance, media and education which would be similar to our Gospel Life Vision 21: Journey to Divine Destiny - a Strategy for Kingdom Culture Formation, presented to us last year in the Gospel Life Master Plan 2011.
For more details of their Update from the Philippines, please read the Global Outreach Report in a separate e-mail to you earlier today.

CORE GROUP MEETING
Your Attendance is Encouraged
A few items will be taken up at Sunday's Core Group Meeting. It will be at around 2:00 p.m. after the Fellowship Lunch. You know who you are, core group members.
In any event, the meeting is open to all who would like to attend. There are no secrets here. But why the picture of these kids? We just want for all of you to be as attentive and as interested as these kids are towards this announcement. Don't leave after lunch this Sunday, ok?

"When [the Samaritan] saw him, his heart was filled with pity." (Luke 10:33b TEV)
In order to love your neighbor as yourself, you need to start seeing the needs of the people around you.
Jesus shows us that it's not always easy to see those hurting on the other side of road. Yet we begin to love them when we open our eyes to the needs of those around us: "But a Samaritan who was traveling that way came upon the man, and when he saw him, his heart was filled with pity" (Luke 10:33 TEV, italics mine).
Kindness always starts with opening your eyes. It begins when you learn to observe. If you're not aware of needs, you can't care about those needs. You have to expand your vision and become more sensitive.
There are wounded people all over the world. Some of them live next door, some walk by you at work, and some even sit next to you at church.
Why don't we see their wounds? One word: busyness. Hurry is the death of loving others. If you want to learn to love, you have to slow down, just like the Samaritan slowed down and stopped.
The first step to kindness is to ask God to give you spiritual radar, so that you can be on the lookout for people in need around you who are hurting emotionally, spiritually, physically, and in any other way.
- Pray: "Lord, help me see people as you see them!"
- Be on the lookout for those who need help, encouragement, or care.
- How would those around you rate you on awareness? Co-workers? Neighbors?
- Write down the names of three people you see on a weekly basis. Now write down something you know they are struggling with: "None of you should be looking out for your own interests, but for the interests of others" (1 Corinthians 10:24 TEV).

| MEDITATION |
| |
Dear God, thank You for this day. Sometimes my world just seems dark; problems abound, stress creeps in, I can't seem to see "the light at the end of the tunnel." But I know you are there to carry me through. Your Word tells me (Psalm 30:5) that "weeping may endure for a night, but joy comes in the morning," so I have hope and your promise of joy. Please continue to lift me up, give me strength, and carry me when necessary, so that I may emerge victorious over the darkness and continually be filled with joy and praise. May these spill over to bless those around me and my circle of influence. Thank You in Jesus' name, amen.
