Greetings!
Gospel Life Community has many tasks to do, but its only message to the world at large and to the community it serves is the gospel of Jesus Christ. Everything else that we do is an extension of that primary goal.
The message we bear is always the same, but methods for making it known are many -- the spoken Word, music, printed material, electronic media, and many others -- but each one requires the participation and involvement of each of God's people. It's every Christian's responsibility to use his or her spiritual gifts, talents and abilities to help fulfill the Great Commission.
Some may think that this role is given only to pastors, ministers, missionaries or other people involved with certain ministries. But each one of us is commanded to be involved in whatever way we are able and in whatever opportunity God gives us. Not everyone is able to be sent abroad as a missionary but all can give, pray and tell their friends and family what the Lord has done for them.
When you're truly committed to getting the gospel out, God will reveal what work He is calling you to do. He has a place for every one of us. No one should consider himself or herself as being insignificant or unusable.
The limiting factor is not the Lord's ability to use us but our availability to His call. When He calls, are we ready to go?

REPAINT FELLOWSHIP HALL
On Saturday, March 3, there will be several of our congregation who will repaint the Fellowship Hall. Additional help is needed at 9 a.m. and again at 4 p.m. to help move some of the heavier furniture and equipment in the hall. We need several able-bodied people to come and help those two times. You may wish to stay in the morning and help paint the room or you may leave and return in the afternoon to help move the heavier furniture and equipment again. Your assistance will be greatly appreciated. |
NERF TOURNAMENTS
Two nerf ball tournaments will be held this coming weekend at Gospel Life. Each one will serve a different age group. The tournament this coming Friday, March 2, is for those who are 25 and over. The one on Saturday, March 3, is for those who are 13 and under 25.
Friday's event registration begins at 7 p.m. Team registration is until 7:30 p.m. If you arrive late, you will be assigned to a team. The fee is $5. There is no dinner or child care provided.
On Saturday, registration begins at 4:30 p.m. Pizza will be served during registration. The fee is $10.
Besides the tournament, both events will also deal with relationship enrichment. |
VOLUNTEER SERVING "A Sermon That Walks" was the subject of the message given by Pastor Conrad during the Good News Hour yesterday. This was part of the February theme on Stewardship.
By giving our service not only to our church as members and congregants, but more so to the community, we exercise voluntary serving to prove that we do not only "talk the talk" but also "walk the walk," he said.
He reminded us that none of the things we do qualify us for salvation because eternal life is a gift from God and no one deserves it except through His grace and our faith in His Son Jesus.
The title he chose is a take-off from the saying, "I'd rather see a sermon than hear one." |
PREPARATIONS Easter will soon be here. Invite your family, friends, neighbors and others to come to Gospel Life for our Easter Service on Sunday, April 8.
It will be a special Sunday. Preparations are being made for an Easter Presentation which is being initiated by Natalie Phillips-Orzame. We will know the details as the event approaches. There will be a "choir" that will assist in the presentation. Male and female voices will be needed. Volunteers, please let Natalie know. |
FIRST SUNDAY Next Sunday is First Sunday, so you know the drill. If you'd like to share an experience, a testimony, a talent or anything that builds up the body of Christ, please do so.
Let Pastor Hansel know in advance as he is in charge of the First Sunday service. Give him a call (626-487-1549) or email him ( glchansel@gmail.com) to give him an idea of what you are planning to do and he can tell you how much time is alloted for your part.
We will also have a Communion Service. |

MARKETPLACE MINISTRY You Were Made to Fly
"Naked I came from my mother's womb, and naked I will depart. The LORD gave and the LORD has taken away; may the name of the LORD be praised" (Job 1:21). Can a caterpillar fly? If you said, "No," you would be partially correct. Actually, a caterpillar can fly, but it must have a transformation first. The butterfly begins life as a caterpillar, a wormlike larva that spins a cocoon for itself. For weeks, the larva remains hidden within the cocoon as it undergoes metamorphosis. When it's time for the butterfly to emerge, it must struggle and fight its way out of the cocoon. We might be tempted to help this process by tearing open the cocoon - but that's the worst thing we could do. The struggle makes it strong and enables it to fly. Butterflies need adversity to become what God intended them to be. So do we. The Book of Job is the story of a wealthy and successful community leader named Job. He was a successful and righteous businessman with huge holdings of livestock and real estate. One day Satan came before God and asked him, "Where have you come from?" Satan replied, "From roaming through the earth and going back and forth in it." God said to Satan, "Have you considered my servant Job? He is blameless and upright, a man who fears God and shuns evil." Notice that God pointed Job out to Satan! God gave Satan permission to put Job through a trial of adversity. Job's herds were stolen, his servants were murdered, and all of Job's children were killed by a sudden tornado. Through his trial of adversity, he grows in strength, wisdom and faith. His entire perspective on God is transformed by his suffering. He was even accused of sin by his closest friends. We must get beyond the immature notion that God is interested only in making us healthy, wealthy and happy. More than anything, He wants us to be like Christ. And the road to becoming like Christ often leads through the wilderness of adversity.
In order for the butterfly to fly, there must be a transformation process that is often developed through adversity.
