Greetings!

What is your usual response when you perceive troubles coming your way? Do you get blown off course or become fragmented in your thoughts, wondering whether God really cares for you?

When situations make you feel happy, what does God look like to you? Does this view change as difficulties come about?

Thankfully, in the wheel of our circumstances, whether we're up or down, Jesus is our steadfast anchor.  Let's cling to Him because He is our unchanging, eternal, loving Lord and Friend at all times.

WHAT GOD CARES ABOUT

Pastor Hansel's message yesterday at the Good News Hour placed emphasis on God's desire to have an intimate relationship with His children.

He pointed out that in Jesus' commission to make disciples of all nations we find fulfilment by "loving people with generosity, kindness, acceptance and service. But our obedience isn't complete without the spiritual gifts and acts.  It is a necessity to do these thinngs out of our love for Jesus."

It is important, he said, to utilize three tools to carry out Jesus' command:  intercessory prayer, the prophetic word, and divine healing.

Several of our guests as well as our regular congregants took advantage of the ministry of our prayer team at the end of the service.

RELATIONSHIP INVENTORY

Another successful Men's Breakfast Meeting was held on Saturday morning at the Fellowship Hall.  The men started to arrive at around 8 a.m. and soon they were enjoying a hearty breakfast.  As usual, there was more than adequate food for everyone.

Pastor John Tulio was invited to lead out this time.  He spoke to the men informally for about fifteen minutes after which they broke off into groups to discuss the Relationship Inventory of which the Pastor spoke about.

A checklist was provided for each of those present. This was discussed among the members of each group relative to three simple steps to evaluate relationships.  Immediate family was the focus at this time.  Each one picked out one person from his immediate family with whom he has an issue(s) to determine the current status of his relationship with that family member.

The next step was to ask the Holy Spirit for wisdom and discernment to know and understand his part in improving that relationship, and then to determine to arrange for a meeting with that other person to resolve the issue(s) between them.

Each group member shared the result of his Relationship Inventory within the group without having to reveal the identity of the immediate family member he is speaking of. They also shared past experiences similar to another member's relationship issue and how they dealt with it.

At the end of the encounter, the group members were encouraged to pray for each other and to make a commitment to keep encouraging and praying for each other.

THE RED CARD

Have you filled out the "red card?"  Perhaps you may not know what we're referring to.

Two or three weeks ago you may have received a letter explaining the finances of our church.  Enclosed with that letter was a red "Ministry of Giving Commitment" card.

The card has three areas where your support is requested: for our local Church Ministry, for our Mission Projects and to help reduce our Loan Principal.

Those who have not done so yet are requested to fill out one of these Red Cards and drop them into the "treasure chest" sitting against the back wall of Gospel Life's sanctuary. The red card is available on the table where the "treasure chest" is displayed.

Please prayerfully consider the amount(s) you will write on the Red Card.  Let the Holy Spirit lead you as you make these commitments.

An Exercise in Casting Cares

READ PSALM 55:16-66

God's shoulders are wide enough to carry your burdens.  He is sovereign over the universe, so He is certainly capable of working out problems and meeting needs. Today I want to give you an exercise that will help make casting your cares a practical act.

First, write on a piece of paper the things that cause your anxiety.  Once you start writing, you may discover a list of items that cheat you out of peace.

Next, pray each issue into God's care.  Recall Psalm 18:35 which promises that He upholds believers in His grasp.

Finally, as you pray, visualize placing the situation into God's omnipotent hands.  For example, a woman may imagine handing over to the Lord what she owes, while saying, "Father, I give YOU my financial anxiety.  I know that You will show me how to get out of debt.  You are more than sufficient to handle it, and I trust You to guide me."

Some people may protest this suggestion, because humanistic and pseudo-spiritual movements also use a method they refer to as "visualizing." Don't let anyone steal what is rightfully yours. God creates word pictures throught the Bible.  This exercise merely creates a mental snapshot of the Lord doing exactly what He says He will do. (Psalm 55:22, Matthew 6:25-26.)

When you have transferred all of your worries to God's hands, wad up that paper in your fist, and then destroy it.  In this way, you symbolize the transaction that just took place.  Your cares are no longer yours.  Every one of them belongs to the Lord.  Walk away in perfect peace.

MEDITATION

"Dear Father in Heaven, You know how hard it is to see Your children and families hurting when they do not communicate with You and with one another, when they are self-centered, out of Your will, and following the wrong paths. Maybe they get too busy to nourish the really important relationships in their lives.

"I pray right now for my own family, for all of the families around the world, for husbands and wives who have grown apart or are on the verge of divorce, for children who are rebellious and angry, for parents who are too busy and irritated, for those who are bitter or hurt. Thank You, God, for reaching down and tugging on their hearts, speaking to their minds, and showing them the way.

"I pray that the root of their problems will be exposed and that through the Holy Spirit, through Your Word, through a caring friend or a concerned Christian, or whatever way You know is best, that You will turn around those lives that are headed the wrong direction and put them back together. I pray that these families will become healthy, happy, God-honoring, communicating and loving families.

"And God, for the families that are doing well, thank You for protecting them and keeping them away from the evil one; for surrounding them with guardian angels; and for keeping them under Your wings of love and guidance. Thank You, in Jesus' name, amen."
