Greetings!

Sharing and giving is what most of us know about Christmas.  But do we do this in expectation of something in return?  Have we asked ourselves what the true meaning of Christmas is deep within our hearts?

As we close in on the date we celebrate the first advent of Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior, let's reflect on what it means to us individually.  Let's pray that the Holy Spirit continues to bring us to that point when all our actions are selfless and truly benevolent.

May each one of us become an extension of God's grace to those around us.

THE PROMISE KEEPER

Third in the series

We heard another powerful sermon from Pastor John yesterday. He spoke on "The Promise Keeper," the third topic in the series entitled "King of Kings."

First he walked us through the Old Covenant promises that God made to Adam, Abraham and Moses which included the Ten Commandments given to the children of Israel, making it clear that "the law was designed to last only until the coming of the child who was promised." (Galatians 3:19 NLT)

Then he showed us from the Bible the change from the Old to the New Covenant which "made the first one obsolete. It is now out of date..." (Hebrews 8:13 NLT)  This new covenant is based on the system of grace which comes from an intimate relationship with God and not on performance of external rules.

Jesus made these important promises before He ascended to heaven: that He will send the Holy Spirit to fill His followers with power, that his followers will have eternal fellowship with Him in heaven, and that God will establish a New Earth Kingdom so that He can dwell with them forever.

The final topic in the series is "The Perfect Gift," which Pastor John will bring to us during the service on Christmas Day. Don't miss out on this one.

MONTHLY DINNER FELLOWSHIP

To Benefit New Typhoon and Flood Victims

At first we said there would be no Monthly Fund-raising Dinner this month, but there was so much expression of interest in having one anyway although we might be busy preparing for the Christmas holiday season.

So here we are, going for what has truly become a monthly dinner for fellowship, fund-raising notwithstanding, tomorrow evening. This time it's going to be at the Capital Restaurant, somewhat across from Maxim Cafe (where we've been to a couple of times) at the 99 Ranch Market Center in Nogales and Gale.  We plan to start at about 7:00 p.m.

In contrast to the buffets we've been to previously, each table will be served a dozen courses with beverage and dessert. This will be somewhat of a different experience than the last three monthly dinners we've had.

We just want to thank Johnny and Nellie Chua for making the arrangments with the different restaurants because they always make sure half of what we spend can go to designated Gospel Life projects.  This time, the recent typhoon and flood victims in the Philippines will be the benficiaries of the funds that are generated from this fellowship dinner.

Please call Johnny if you'd like to add your name (and others, like your family members and/or friends) for reservations. His number is (909) 228-2162.

THE LION'S DEN WEEKEND

January 27 - 29Steve Enriquez Baptism

The Lion's Den School director, Pastor Hansel Orzame, reiterated his previous announcement about the upcoming Lion's Den Weekend at the end of next month.

He will be assisted by special guests Dustin and Savannah Box from Vallejo, CA; and Keith and Heather Ferrante from Vacaville, CA who will bring with them second year Deeper School students from the Mission.

The weekend mini-seminar will give attendees a taste of what it's like to attend the full ten-week course offered in the summer and "experience the supernatural."  It will begin on Friday evening, January 27, from 7-9 p.m. The Saturday session will be from 9:30 a.m. to about 10 p.m. and the Sunday session is from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m.

The fee is $40 by January 15, and $50 thereafter.

Victoria's Friends

"If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness" (1 John 1:9-10).

Victoria grew up like many middle income families. She loved school and was even in her homecoming court all four years in high school. After some tragic family deaths during her teen years, she began to experiment with alcohol and drugs. She was raped, underwent multiple abortions, and began working as a dancer at a local nude dancing club, which she continued to do for more than four years.

After suffering nosebleeds from her cocaine addition, Victoria became very involved with the new age movement, nearly had a nervous breakdown, and eventually became suicidal. By the age of 28 she was homeless, stranded and fired from her job as a strip-club dancer. Barely 100 pounds, she was no longer profitable to the industry.

Then a Christian gave her a Bible. The first book she read was Job and something gripped her heart. A church family took her into their home. They surrounded her with love and pointed her to who she was in Christ. Victoria says, "Jesus is the only healer of deep, deep wounds."

Now, years later, Victoria's compassionate heart is focused on reaching other lives on the brink of life or death. She founded a ministry called Victoria's Friends, which goes into the heart of the darkest places of the city in the strip clubs. Trained women ministry volunteers bring baskets to the dancers in their dressing rooms with no motive other than to show they care. Men stay outside the clubs and pray for the women going inside. It is the ultimate rescue mission. It is the love of Christ expressed in a simple, but powerful way. This act translates into relationships that are formed between those who continue to show their love for them.

Hundreds of young women have come out of this lifestyle because one woman decided to do what others had done for her - rescue her from the pit of darkness.

What type of rescue mission might God call you to lead?

"Glory be to You Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit. I pray for a closeness to You like I have never felt before. Lord, I seek Your face and desire Your will. Please increase my thirst for Your presence.

"While You will always be my heavenly Father, and I Your child through the blood atonement of Jesus Christ," I thank You that You are able to keep me close to you, that You will never let go of me, and that You will never allow anyone or anything to snatch me out of Your hand.

"Thank You. I love, respect, appreciate, and lift up my praise to You God, in the name of Jesus. Amen."
