Greetings!

Everybody needs a retreat once in a while - away from the routine and "busyness" of our work or our chores at home.  This could be a conscious attempt to go somewhere quiet and peaceful, but it could also be doing something entirely different, even something amidst laughter, glee or joy.

Our monthly fund raising dinner may be the event that will take you away from your humdrum daily schedule and rejuvenate you for the rest of another fruitful week!  Let's all join this monthly gathering and on this November month celebrate our Church Anniversary, express our collective Thanksgiving to our Lord as a church, and welcome back Pastors John and Jessie to our midst after almost two months' missionary trip to the Philippines.

It doesn't matter that you did not make your reservations yet.  Come anyway and bring your fee to the restaurant and/or call Johnny Chua today at the number above. Remember: the proceeds go to our Worship Ministry Fund (sound system upgrade)!

GLOBAL OUTREACH REPORT

PHL Membership Tops 1000

Pastor John gave a more detailed report on Gospel Life's Global Outreach  yesterday afternoon, after the fellowship lunch. Progress of God's work in Palawan, Bacolod, Cebu, and Davao among others was detailed.

Several more churches joined the Gospel Life fellowship of congregations after studying and learning the basic truths we believe in, otherwise known as the Basic 10.

In 2011 alone, there have been 121 baptisms in Palawan, 34 of whom were baptized only recently, on November 6.  There are now a total of 15 Gospel Life churches in the Philippines with membership totaling more than 1000.

Pastor John reiterated Gospel Life's thankfulness for the support of the Palawan ministry from Paul and Dollie Sy, and for the on-site post-retirement ministry of Pastors Prom and Norma Amoguis in the Philippines, more specifically in Palawan.

A more detailed report will appear in the GOGL (Global Outreach of Gospel Life) newsletter.

FREEDOM TO LOVE
-Grace Lifestyle
Pastor John continued with the series on the Grace Lifestyle in his Good News Hour sermon yesterday entitled "Freedom to Love." This, he said, was the reason "Jesus saved us: to set us free to love others."

Several Bible texts were given to show that "God's special purpose for His people is to be wholly committed to living a lifestyle of loving." He further pointed out that the "grace lifestyle is loving by practrical service to others, ministering to others with our spiritual gifts, and sharing the Gospel with others."

He brought his message to a close by telling us that " a lifestyle of loving and serving others is the most significant life a person could have," and that "when we understand God's grace, we will live the grace lifestyle."

Pastor Hansel will speak on the same sermon theme next Sunday.

They're Always Watching and Listening

"About midnight Paul and Silas were praying and singing hymns to God, and the other prisoners were listening to them" (Acts 16:25-26).

It didn't take long for non-believers to realize I was different in the secular workplaces where I've worked. I didn't participate in the jokes, the dirty language, or criticism of management. I didn't judge them for their behavior because they were merely acting the way they should act as one who does not have Christ in their life. I viewed them as prisoners awaiting their salvation and that I might be the instrument to lead them to my Savior.

I would often be known as the "religious guy." It wasn't because I was particularly vocal or I tried to separate myself; it happened naturally. The Christ in me naturally made me stand out. Jesus called us to be the "salt and light" of any life situation. The secular workplace economy is contrary to the Kingdom of God economy so we should naturally stand out in any situation.

When Paul and Silas were in prison their lifestyle of worship and prayer in the midst of the horrible conditions of a dirty prison stood out in stark contrast to their circumstances. They didn't pray and sing to impress their cellmates, they simply did what was natural to them. Still, "the other prisoners were watching and listening."

No matter where you are, others are watching you to determine if your faith is real or if you're an impostor. The world is looking to discredit your faith. You are a witness always, whether you choose to be or not.

"The jailer called for lights, rushed in and fell trembling before Paul and Silas. He then brought them out and asked, 'Sirs, what must I do to be saved?'" (Acts 16:29-30). When you begin to reflect the love and power of Christ in your life you won't have to have an evangelism program to win others into the Kingdom. It will be a fruit of your life. The "fish" will actually jump into the boat!

Beware how you conduct your life today. Because the prisoners are watching and listening.

MEDITATION

"Lord, thank You for empowering me by Your Spirit today. I do not want to do anything out of vanity or just trying to 'climb every mountain' on my own.

"I long to be led by Your Spirit, not by human initiative and man-inspired positive thinking. Thank You for making me a positive, joyful person, full of Your Spirit, inspired by Your Word, and busy about Your work as I go through daily life.

"Thank You that all I do will glorify You and be evidence of Your power and Your might and Your Holy Spirit. In Jesus' name I pray, amen.
