Greetings!
Are we growing in giving? Going through some of Pastor John's communications to the church members in the past, we came across a letter in which he exhorts us to grow in giving with a quote from 2 Cor. 8:7 NCV -"You are rich in everything--in faith, in speaking, in knowledge, in truly wanting to help and in the love you learned from us. In the same way be strong also in the grace of giving."
More than ever, we need to follow a plan of systematic benevolence so that we don't end up just giving the "crumbs" or whatever is left over for the work of the church and for its needs. We can do this by either giving proportionately (a certain percentage of income rather than a specific amount), by giving sacrificially (giving up something in order to make funds available for some purpose), or by giving by faith (giving or pledging an amount not normally available without God's definite intervention).
"Our desire is for you to continue to grow in your giving ministry," Pastor John continues. "So we are asking you to do three things to support our church family's ministry" by planning to increase your monthly support for our church ministy, by planning to give sacrificially to support our mission projects, and by planning to engage in a faith venture for reducing our mortgage loan principal in 2012.
God will bless you and and your family by providing you with what you need when you partner with Him and select a venture in faith that you can work on and pray for.

 | GRACE LIFESTYLE | | |
Freedom Perspective
Pastor L.J. Dijamco started the series on the "Grace Lifestyle" yesterday when he spoke on the "Freedom Perspective" of grace. He made it clear, once again, that we are made free by grace, through faith. He also reiterated that God provides everything we need so we can live in freedom.
He enumerated four ways to express freedom: to freely live, freely give, freely be and freely love. In conclusion he admonished that we let our freedom lifestyle bring glory to God.
The remaining two sermons on the series wil be given on November 13 by Pastor John and on November 20 by Pastor Hansel.
This coming Sunday is First Sunday in November. Please make sure to let Pastor Hansel know if you'd like to share a testimony, sing, recite a poem, play a musical instrument, do a worship dance or anything else to praise and honor our Lord. There will be a communion service as well. |
 | FELLOWSHIP LUNCH | | |
Be Aware the Groups have Changed
Please be aware that the Fellowship Lunch groupings have recently changed. Kindly check the list on the bulletin board at the Fellowship Hall. It is requested that each member or family in the group contribute $20 per month to help defray the cost of the meals prepared every Sunday. While some may be able to contribute less, others may be able to give a larger share. Please give this to your group "collector."
Each group determines who their leaders are (this role may rotate among the members of the group if they choose to). "Division of labor" will also depend on your group as to who serves in the lunch line, who brings what food (or this may be outsourced), who cleans up at the Fellowship Hall or at the church (including the restrooms), who disposes the trash into the garbage bin, etc. etc.
Thank you, everyone, for pitching in. Many hands make work light! |
 | FOR SMALL GROUP LEADERS | | |
And Leaders-to-be....
Pastor Tony Luciano presented a preliminary bird's eye view of a video seminar called "Building a Biblical Community" which was developed by the small group ministry leaders from the Willow Creek Church and the Saddleback Church.
This was given so that the small group leaders will have an idea as to what is contained in the four-session set of lessons that can be shared in the small group fellowship setting. Basically, it teaches the small groups not only to be studying and learning groups, but more importantly to become transformational groups that will have an impact on society.
A set of ten books and study guides plus a leader's guide are now available. These can be signed out by any small group who wants to start the seminar and returned when they are done with the lessons. Or, a group may want to order the material for themselves in bulk so that they can write on their books. We will ask that the church's copies not to be written on.
Small group leaders may want to contact Pastor Tony to line up their schedules for this group study. |
 | IMPORTANT IMMUNIZATIONS | | |
Free Flu Shots for Seniors;
Shingles Vaccine also needed but usually not covered by
insurance
Free flu vaccination for seniors will be available tomorrow morning ONLY, Tuesday, November 1, at the Walnut Senior Center, from 9:00 to 11:30 a.m. It is located at 21215 La Puente Road in Walnut, CA.
Everyone 6 months old and over is recommended to take his or her annual flu shot (or spray).
The Shingles Vaccine is another important vaccine that seniors ought to consider taking. The Centers for Disease Control in Atlanta recommends the vaccine for everyone 60 years of age and up. It helps prevent shingles (herpes zoster) and its painful aftermath which can last for months.
Shingles tends to reappear in the senior years especially on those who have had chickenpox in childhood or early adulthood. It is estimated that 99% of the population over age 40 has had chickenpox whether they remember it or not. This vaccine against shingles does not prevent other forms of herpes such as genital herpes (a sex-transmitted disease).

Know Your Customer
"Be sure you know the condition of your flocks, give careful attention to your herds" (Prov. 27:23).
Identifying and meeting the needs of customers is key to any successful marketing venture. Many years ago Coca-Cola decided to introduce a new Coke. They conducted research among loyal customers to determine if the new taste would be embraced by Coke customers. The evidence proved that the new Coke would be successful. However, what Coke did not realize was the emotional attachment Coke users had to their existing Coke product. It created a massive outpouring of negative publicity when Coke users rebelled against the new Coke. Loyal Coke drinkers may have liked the taste of the new Coke, but they did not want it as a replacement to what they were accustomed to.
The man responsible was fired. It became one of the most famous marketing blunders ever. However, the story does not end here. The company eventually turned a bad situation into a positive one. Coke ended up having two versions of Coke - new and old. The man responsible was rehired and went on to be successful in the company.
Jesus sought to meet the needs of His "customers" by ministering to their needs as His Heavenly Father revealed them to Him. Their real need for salvation did not get met until Jesus met a physical need that allowed Him to reveal the true need they had.
Some of your "customers" have a perceived need for your product. But they also have a spiritual need they may not realize they have. God wants to use you to meet both needs.
That's why it is important for you to know your customer.

"Dear God, truly blessed are the feet of those who share the Good News of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. I pray for every Christian, and every Christian leader, who shares Your love and gift of life with others. Thank You for protecting and blessing each of them.
"Thank You for giving each of us the messages that you want us to speak and for nudging us through your Holy Spirit to speak at the right times and at the right places.
"Through your power, may the world know that you are God and through our ministries, may you be glorified, may souls be saved, and Christians united in strength and love. In the Savior's name I pray, amen." |
