Greetings!

In a time of uncertainty and fear the Holy Spirit invites us not only to hope but to rely on God both for His leading and His mercy. Anxiety and uncertainty, when voiced in community, can be heard, blessed and transformed into energy, hope and assurance.  If, on the other hand, they are ignored, swallowed or hidden, they can be corrosive and may even lead to despair and despondency.

Our Small Group Fellowships are meant to be havens of refuge and safe communities where we can become trusting of each other and rely on each other for support, counsel and direction when our circumstances call for them. That is why it is so important to belong to one or more of these groups as a source of nurture and support, as well as a protective shelter when storms in our life come about.

These groups can also become places of opportunity to learn from our fellow brothers and sisters in the faith who may have long been bearers of comfort and hope in the midst of whatever calamities or crises arise.

Let's not lose or ignore the Gospel imperative of self-sacrifice and generosity even as we scramble for self-preservation in a culture of scarcity. God always provides!

Here's information from the CDC

We all are "faces" of influenza and should be immunized this and every year. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), with the support of leading health experts, recommends that everyone 6 months of age and older be immunized.

Even healthy people need a flu shot - to help stay healthy and to help prevent the spread of flu to others. Groups at higher risk of developing influenza-related complications include:
  • People 50 years of age and older
  • Children 6 months-18 years of age
  • Pregnant women
  • People of any age with certain chronic medical conditions, such as asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), heart disease, diabetes, and others
  • Residents of long-term care facilities and nursing homes

Additionally, those who come into close contact with high-risk groups should get a flu shot, not only to help protect themselves against influenza, but also to help avoid spreading the disease to more vulnerable populations. They include:

  • Household contacts and caregivers of anyone in a high-risk group, including contacts such as parents, siblings, grandparents, babysitters, and child-care providers
  • Health-care personnel

Note: Children younger than 9 years of age may need 2 doses approximately 1 month apart, depending on their influenza vaccination history.

Some people should not get the vaccine or should first talk with their
health-care provider. These include:

  • People with severe allergies to eggs
  • People who have had a severe allergic reaction to a past influenza vaccination
  • Children younger than 6 months of age, because no vaccination is licensed yet for this age group

TRAINING SESSION FOR SMALL GROUP LEADERS
Others Interested May Join

Tony Luciano casual
Pastor Tony Luciano

A training session for small group leaders and for future small group leaders will be held on Sunday, October 30, at 2:00 p.m. Pastor Tony Luciano, Gospel Life  Minister for Discipleship, will moderate the program.

The session will be a "continuing education" event for all those who are interested to attend.

The video seminar is on "Building a Biblical Community" whose main message is to refocus the aim of small group fellowships from a "teaching or learning group" into a "transforming group."

This means that not only are these small groups to be sources of learning from dedicated teachers but more importantly, creating an impact to transform not only the group members but others as well to whom their sphere of influence stretches.

DEVOTIONAL
Prayer: Jesus Teaches Get Alone with God

"I will climb up into my watchtower..." Habakkuk 2:1 (NLT)

If we want to fulfill God's vision for our lives and ministries, we must continually hear from God. We must believe that hearing from God daily is a requirement for us to truly shepherd our congregations (and families).  It is not just an add-on to our list of things to do; it is a necessity for being a loving and effective minister. (Aren't we all God's ministers?)

The Prophet Habakkuk says, "I will climb into my watchtower ...." This is his way of saying; 'I'm going to get alone with God.'

It doesn't matter where you get alone with God. You just need to find a place. I happen to like outside. When my kids were growing up, I actually built a little Prayer Garden down on the slope behind my house where I could get away and pray and focus on God.

You need to have a place that's quiet, a place where you habitually go every time you meet with God. Make it special and specific.

The Bible says, "Jesus often withdrew to lonely places and prayed." (Luke 5:16 NIV) This was a habit with Jesus and it needs to become a habit in your life. If you want to get God's vision for your ministry and hear God's direction, you need to meet with him daily.

Let him set your priorities.

Jesus says, "Find a quiet, secluded place so you won't be tempted to role-play before God. Just be there as simply and honestly as you can manage. The focus will shift from you to God, and you will begin to sense his grace." (Matthew 6:6 Msg)

God wants to meet with you. He wants you to know him as well as he knows you. There is nothing in your life or in your church that God is not interested in: "Don't worry about what you will eat ... or drink ... or wear. Your heavenly Father knows that you need (these things)." (Matthew 6:31-32)

MEDITATION

"Oh Lord, thank You for making me strong and courageous. Empower, lift up, and encourage me that I will not be terrified of any thing, person or circumstance; neither let me be discouraged, for You, the Lord my God will be with me wherever I go (Joshua 1:9).

"No matter what I face today, I know that You are with me and Your Holy Spirit lives within me and has sealed me unto the day of redemption. I thank You in that I know that the blood of Jesus has covered my sin and washed me white as snow, that I may be righteous in Him and live unto Him.

"I praise You and thank You Lord Almighty for Your strength, power, grace, mercy, and love. May You be glorified in all the earth, and through my life. In Jesus' name I pray. Amen."
