WHAT'S IN THIS ISSUE
OCTOBER THEME:  DESTINY - DRIVEN LIFE

Greetings!

We've had a very busy and rewarding weekend.  Another new week comes to us with all its challenges and blessings.  Let's continue to lay all our cares on Jesus who promises to take all our burdens away.

Do we know as Christians what our destiny is? How do we understand our earthly existence relative to our eternal destiny?

These are dealt with by Pastor Joannie Alano in the Good News Hour messages this month which began yesterday. Let's not miss the rest of these messages on the next two Sundays.

GL JOINS WFF PARADE

A group from our church participated in the Walnut Family Festival Parade for the first time.  It was a little over a mile distance that the group had to walk.  Tony Luciano, Minister for Discipleship at Gospel Life.

AWARD IS TOTALLY UNEXPECTED

Gospel Life's participation in the Walnut Family Festival on Saturday, October 8, for the third year in a row was fairly routine.  Other than to let our community know that we exist at 18901 E. Amar Road, and to offer a community service in the form of a Blood Pressure and Diabetic Screening clinic, there was no expectation of a reward forthcoming.

To our surprise, but to God's glory, Gospel Life was presented with a Second Place Trophy in the "Church" category of the Parade.  The First Place Trophy went to the United Methodist Church who had a float affirming the festival's theme of "the great outdoors."

Jessica Alano happened to be in the vicinity of the "big tent" where the day's program was being held when the announcement for the prize was broadcast over its public address system.  She received the trophy on behalf of Gospel Life Community.

You will recall that during the first time our church participated two years ago, GL received a First Place certificate for the "Best Booth" among the non-profits in the Community Awareness area of the festival.

GL YOUTH GAME BOOTH: SHOOTING PAINTBALLS

Deviant Generation Project

Our own youth who otherwise call themselves the "Deviant Generation" participated with much gusto in the Walnut Family Festival.  They had their own Game Booth at the games area of the park.

The group set up their own booth.  On Friday afternoon, the tent was put up with a bunch of the youth and parents helping them.  They reported a very good turnout for other kids coming to their booth to shoot paintballs at certain targets. Candy prizes were given depending on the objective target.

This is the first time our youth had their own booth at the festival in Suzanne Park. Pastor L J Dijamco led the youth in this effort.
MEN'S BREAKFAST

First Meeting on Saturday

The newly organized Men's Breakfast will be held for the first time at Gospel Life on Saturday, October 15, at 8:00 a.m.

Leo Williams, who proposed holding this event, is in charge of the details involved.  There will be a guest speaker.

The men who are coming to the breakfast are to bring certain breakfast items for the group.

Those who plan to attend please give Leo a call at 626-965-5625 so that you can coordinate what to bring for breakfast with him.

It is hoped that the Men's Breakfast will become a regular event.  The group will decide how frequently it will meet.

Tuesday, October 25

Our monthly fund raising dinner is planned again for the last Tuesday of the month, October 25, at 7:30 p.m.

Please call Johnny Chua at (909) 228-2162 to make your reservations. The venue will be announced later.

We'd like to encourage those who have birthdays this month to celebrate by asking their loved ones and friends to join us in this fund raiser. You might be bold enough to ask them that instead of gifts you'd like for them to come and buy themselves a $20 ticket for the meal, half of which goes to our Worship Ministry (sound system) Fund.

Last month over a hundred tickets were bought and as many turned out for the dinner!  It was well attended and there was a whole lot of fun in fellowship.
MARKETPLACE MINISTRY

Opposing God's Leadership

"The anger of the LORD burned against them, and he left them" (Num 12:9).

Beware of trying to depose a leader that God has raised in your midst. Leaders are placed by God in business, government, churches - almost every place where leaders are required. When God places a person in position of authority, it is a grievous mistake to go against that leadership. God Himself opposes those who come against His leadership.

God's leaders are not perfect. They make mistakes. That is why following a leader can require a faith that goes beyond faith in the leader. Our faith lies in the God who elevated the leader to his or her position.

Miriam and Aaron, the older brother and sister of Moses, had a family dispute about Moses' wife, who was an Ethiopian and Cushite. She most likely was a black woman. We do not know the nature of the dispute, but it was a typical family conflict.

However, the family conflict began to impact God's agenda for a nation. They were now meddling in God's business. And He did not like that in the least. God literally brought Aaron and Miriam into the switching house. He judged both Miriam and Aaron for their rebellion against His ordained leader. "Why then were you not afraid to speak against my servant Moses?" (Num 12:8).

Miriam was stricken with leprosy and had it not been for Moses' appeal on her behalf, she would have been cast out for good. God gave her a second chance but it required being cast away from the camp for seven days. Miriam and Aaron repented for their rebellion.

If you struggle with a leader that God has over you, pray for that leader. If God wants to remove that leader, He can do it. Think twice about conspiring to remove a leader whom God has not chosen to remove yet.

MEDITATION

Dear Father in Heaven, I have a burden for the young people in my church, at Gospel Life Community. Thank You for they are a cut above the rest only because You love them so much and because You have given them parents, grandparents, or guardians who love You and them.

I thank You for these families to whom our youth belong. I am so grateful that You anoint them and bless the desire of their hearts.

On the other hand, there are many children out there who long to have parents and a stable family to love and care for them. Thank you that you are the One who gives them hope and assurance of a better life when they

believe in You and accept You in their lives.

Thank you for joining together those parents and children into loving families. Thank you for meeting their needs and showing your hand in their lives. And thank you most of all for saying "Yes!" to them and for working Your miracles in their special situations. In the name of Jesus I pray, amen.
