CORE GROUP MEETING
this coming Sunday at 2:00 p.m. |
FIRST SUNDAY
October 2, 2011 Please call Pastor Hansel (626) 487-1549) if you'd like to come up in front to give testimony, to sing, to play a musical instrument, to do a skit or whatever you want to offer our Lord in praise, worship and thanksgiving. There will be a Communion Service. |
Greetings!
What is your concept of worship? Are you a spectator or a participant? Is it the same as praise? Does it belong to the quiet or to the audibly expressive?
When we have our Praise and Worship service at The River on Sunday mornings what are we thinking? If you think logically about it, worship can be quiet, but praise almost always has to be something that one can hear, something vocal that comes from a person's mouth.
The important thing is participation. You can't praise or worship as a spectator, just watching. You have to be into it, and in it! And if you have never joined us at The River, you are definitely missing something. You must experience it!

CORE GROUP MEETING
The banner headline of this Newsletter tells us about this meeting on Sunday. Core group members, please attend. When you hear about something being done, or a program of sorts being started, or a new project being undertaken and you ask why you don't know anything about it, chances are because you don't attend the Core Group meetings. The Core Group is the church council. It is the highest authority at Gospel Life. What the Core Group decides, the church follows.
Its functions are to review and approve the church's mission and strategic plan, leadership structure, annual budget and financial reports, property purchase or sale, membership applications/discipline, lead elder and leadership board.
All elders, coordinators, managers and members actively involved in ministries including the small group fellowships are members of the Core Group. |

I am the God who forgives your sins and I do this because of who I am and I will not hold your sins against you. (Isaiah 43:25)
When something starts going wrong in your life, do you automatically think, "God's getting even with me! I know it! I did that thing I'm ashamed of yesterday (or last year or twenty years ago), and now he's settling the score."?
Does God really treat his children that way? Absolutely not! Isaiah says God doesn't hold our sins against us. Once we've confessed our sins to him, it's all forgiven and forgotten, and he doesn't even bring up the past. (Accepting Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior of our life erases all our sins, past, present and future.)
If you're a Christian, pay close attention to Ephesians 1:4-5: "Even before the world was made, God had already chosen us to be his through our union with Christ, so that we would be holy and without fault before him. Because of his love God had already decided that through Jesus Christ he would make us his children-this was his pleasure and purpose" (TEV).
Do you realize that when God looks at you, he sees you through Jesus Christ? When Jesus died on the cross, he paid for all of your sins, so you are forgiven and they are forgotten.
That's why becoming a Christian is such GOOD NEWS. I give Jesus my life, and then he takes it, forgives me and gives me a new chance. He says, "Now I see you without a single fault. You stand before me covered with my love." | (From connect@newsletter.purposedriven.com by Rick Warren. Italics supplied.)

| MEDITATION |
| |
"Dear Heavenly Father, I have put my trust in You. Thank You for showing me the way I should go, for to You I lift up my soul. Teach me to do your will, for you are my God; may your good Spirit lead me on level ground (Psalm 143:8-10).
"Lord, You know me and You know my special needs. I trust You to meet those needs in the way that is best. You know what is in my heart and mind today. Thank you for providing calmness and filling me with good thoughts and actions as I interact with the people around me. In the name of Jesus I pray and offer you praise. Amen." |
