Greetings!

Spiritual warfare is raging across the globe. Encouraging you to stand firm in hope and light, we pray that you will allow God to nurture and sustain you in the victory you already have in Jesus.

The theme for the Good News Hour in the month of September is Spiritual Warfare. Keep this in mind as we enter into a Week of Praise and Prayer (details below).

Spiritual warfare needs prayer warriors as all of us need to be, if we are to positively confess and proclaim the supremacy and victory of Christ over all things.

MORE THAN FORTY

Forty-four from our church had dinner at the Maxim Cafe last evening.  This was another one of those fund raising dinners to help with the upgrade of our sound system.  Those who attended were asked to draw the table number in which they were to be seated, to insure that folks do not always seat

Rel and Reby Ravago        with the group they usually sit with.

Everyone had a good time together and some pictures taken are shown.

WEEK OF PRAISE AND PRAYER

September 5 - 10 is our Week of Praise and Prayer, and is designated as the week of "Breakthrough at Miracle Hill." Please keep this week in your prayers to enhance our experience in Spiritual Warfare.  Each evening there will be a Praise and Prayer service in the church sanctuary beginning at 7:30 p.m.

Sunday, September 11, is our Day of Fasting and Prayer as a church. Please remember that there will be no Fellowship Lunch on that day.  The fellowship hall will be closed.  Those who are not able to fast for physical or medical reasons should plan to have their lunch off campus that day.

The month of September is our month of fasting and prayer.  Each of us may individually choose a day or more during the month for our own personal fasting and prayer.

IMPORTANT MEETING TONIGHT

Members of Gospel Life Community should be at tonight's meeting in the church.  Those who are part of the Finance Committee and the church's Leadership Board are particularly urged to be in this meeting.  A guest will make a presentation/proposal relative to a financing option to redeem Gospel Life's mortgage note which becomes due in May, 2012.

If you ask someone to relate the proceedings  of the meeting to you at a later date, there is a high probability that some misinformation may be passed along, so it is best to get it first hand "from the horse's mouth."

Our members who have financial / insurance / fiscal expertise should make it a point to be present.  Please do not be tentative about attending. Just decide you will be there!

CORE GROUP MEETING ON SUNDAY

Pastor John says not to forget we have a Core Group Meeting on Sunday.
All managers, coordinators, elders, pastors, and all who are involved in the various church ministries including the small group fellowships are part of the Core Group.  Several important matters will be presented for your information and consideration.

Remember also that it is First Sunday.  Those who plan to participate up front should have already contacted Pastor Hansel who is in charge of First Sundays.  There will be a Communion Service, too.

DEVOTIONAL

"You must love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul, all your mind, and all your strength." Mark 12:30 (NLT)

Faith always means risk. Everything in life is a risk. Ecclesiastes 10:8 says, "When you work in a quarry, stones might fall and crush you! When you chop wood, there is danger with each stroke of your ax! Such are the risks of life" (NLT). There's nothing we can do that doesn't have some element of risk in it.

But the greatest risk of all is how we relate to other people and how we relate to God - the risk to do something about those relationships. Mark 12:30 says, "You must love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul, all your mind, and all your strength" (NLT). You take a risk when you love with all your heart. Is it worth it? Absolutely. Jesus reminded us that one of the greatest mistakes we can make is to play it safe with our lives. He said, "If you try to keep your life for yourself, you'll lose it."

You probably remember the part in the third Indiana Jones movie where Indiana Jones came to the edge of a cliff. He was challenged to step out over the cliff even though he couldn't see a bridge beforehand. That's not a bad picture of genuine faith. Faith is stepping out and doing what God has asked you to do when you can't see what will happen in the end. You don't know exactly what God's going to do in the end, but you know he's asking you to step out in faith.

Many times we'll come to the edge of faith in our own lives. We're not sure where things are headed. Maybe it is a decision to start a relationship with Jesus for the first time. Maybe you need to trust him with a business decision or something related to a relationship. There is a risk in stepping out in faith. Who will you trust? Will you trust in the Lord with all your heart? What if you're wrong? Is it really God telling you to take the step of faith?

In other words, love your neighbor. Spend time in God's Word. Talk to God in prayer. Spend time with God's people. Love your family. Love your kids. Protect the way that you speak to people. Be kind in your relationships. Be patient.

So take the risk. Trust God with everything you have. Do what God has told you to do in His Word. Then, when God challenges you with a risk of faith, you'll be more confident to do what God tells you to do.
