August, 2011 GLOBAL OUTREACH OF GOSPEL LIF
A Mission Report |
|
Greetings!
Greetings! We receive reports of the progress of God's work in several areas of the Philippines from time to time, and as we receive them, we'd like to share with our members, friends, partners and others who have an interest in sharing the gospel. May your hearts be made happy as ours are, when we read and hear of how our God is not limited by time or space, or by geographical boundaries. We find a universal longing in every human spirit to discover his or her own uniqueness, which emerges from the conviction that our wealth is determined by what we give rather than what we own. We can re-discover manna - God's extraordinary expression of abundance - as we mingle and live among those who surround us. Our outreach is a ministry of service to our fellowmen. Christ said that if we do any of these things to any one of them, we are actually doing them to Him. The Staff at GOGL (Global Outreach of Gospel Life) |

PASTORS PROM & NORMA AMOGUIS REPORT
On August 1st, we received a Mission Report from Pastors Prom and Norma Amoguis coming from GOGL headquarters in Palawan, the Philippines. They baptized 21 persons the previous day although there was a driving rain before and after the baptism. All of these newly baptized persons were products of the Basic 10 Small Group Fellowships conducted by our leaders there, known to us only by their nicknames: Thuds and Imelda, Cedric and Bebeth, and Danny and Liza.
Those baptized consisted of three families and a few single ones. Included in the baptism were Franklin Divinagracia and his family.
It is amazing how Providence works. Franklin is assistant to an Architect Gadiano. Franklin's wife shared that she used to attend "Jesus' Touch" with Franklin accompanying her a couple of times, but all he did was sleep through the sermons and then he didn't want to come with her anymore. However, his wife continued to come to our church regularly and after about three weeks, Franklin heard that Gospel Life was looking for an architect, so he recommended Architect Gadiano.
Franklin expressed his thankfulness that he and his family now worship together in one church. He said that his children now tease him about taking a while before he decided to come to church with them, and that Pastor Prom's humor "took him in."
Included in the group of the newly baptized are Liberato Rito (Libe, not Levi) and his wife Novelita (Dodo) and three of their many children. Libe is a tailor who Pastor Prom is helping to establish his own tailoring business. He made Pastor Prom some pants and shirts as samples and they fit well. Pastor went on to buy material to be made into pants and shirts for the male leaders who teach Basic 10 or participate in the church programs.
Pastor and Thuds are also working on the business of renting caps and gowns and making school uniforms. Thuds has contacts and had experience in this business. So it looks like these businesses are getting situated pretty quickly.
They continue with the sewing program that they introduced to some of the church members there, using the living room and porch of Gospel Life House as their sewing rooms. Pastor Norma says they are thankful for the opportunity to help the members in their livelihood program.
PRAISE AND WORSHIP
" We had a GREATTTTTT Praise and Worship time," reports Pastor Norma. "The NEW Praise Band led out and it was very good! Danny led worship while playing the guitar, and supported by Boy Cayanan (guitar), Pastor Prom (bass guitar), Jane Ignacio - one of the newly baptized (keyboard and/or guitar), Loma (tambourine and vocal), Thuds (tambourine and vocal), and Ondoy, Liza and Aida (vocals). Before the service, we felt that there was a "negative spirit" floating in the church. We called the praise band outside and we spent time in prayer to drive out the "bad spirit." WOW! It was a great victory. Many of us were moved to tears..."
Another story is that of a first time attendee, Rey Bulquerin, husband of Margie Cayabyab Bulquerin who is the sister of Isabela "Bing" Cayabyab Gascon (she cooked for the ministers' conference). Rey works in Qatar and is on vacation for 45 days. He said that while in Qatar, his wife shared with him bits of the Basic 10 and asked him to check out a "born again" group that meets there. He finally attended the "secret" worship services in Qatar and liked them, but he was more impressed with the worship time at Gospel Life (in Palawan).
Rey observed that the baptism was a very happy celebration. He was standing in the gazebo behind the singers and he started crying as the Lord put in his heart that he needed to be baptized before he goes back to Qatar. He asked to be taught the Basic 10 lessons, everyday if need be, so he could finish it before he left. He said he will teach the Basic 10 in Qatar! Praise God!
Please pray for all the newly baptized persons/families and for Rey Bulquerin.
THE CITY CHURCH
As for the BancaoBancao Church (the "City Church" in Puerto Princesa) being constructed (Gospel Life's second church in Palawan) the applications for the utilities have been completed. Pastor Prom attended the seminar at the Palawan Electric Company to complete the final requirement. Water was connected last week and electric power has most likely been connected by now.
They have started their Wednesday prayer meeting at this new church. The gazebo construction is completed and the CRs (rest rooms) are almost done. Wednesday last week was D-Day! the day of their final inspection.
The subdivision road has been cleared of brush, weeds, grass and some stumps. However, there are rocks that still need to be broken up before the land is filled and graded. "The place is looking good!" Pastor Norma says.

"Each baptized person is challenged to put his or her gifts to work in the world in service to God's mission. Daily life is where most of the baptized exercise their vocations - as parents, teachers, firefighters, professors, students, lawyers and others. Unemployment or partial employment can be a remarkable opportunity to do that work of discernment in a deeper way." --Katherine Jefferts Schorl
