EAT  HEALTHY

Greetings!

How often do we encourage and praise our youth? Let's turn our thoughts to them for a while and give them due attention. After all, they are the future pillars of our church.

Let's thank God for all our young ones, ranging from infants to young men and women on the verge of adulthood.  They are a blessing in our midst!

Let's not discount the power and ability stored in their young minds and bodies.

APPLE OF OUR EYE

The Youth in our Midst

We are often remiss in not giving our children credit due them.  More likely we act like the appointed critics of everything they say or do.  But they deserve better, don't you think?

Think about their own journey in this life.  Developmental milestones come and go.  We're glad to see them get to these milestones and better yet when they get past those markers in their journey to the next.

Our youth has a keen sense of adventure.  They are confident. They're willing to take the risks that go with learning to be among us as adults. And we celebrate them for all that makes them and us both ready to undertake whatever challenges face them.

Let's be with them in all the times that they venture into life. Always alert  them to what lies ahead, behind, and beside as they continue to enjoy the "ride" while being attentive to their destination, which, like ours, is everlasting life.

Above all, let's entrust them always to the care and direction of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, who said of children, "For of such is the kingdom of heaven."

WORSHIP CONFERENCE

Three Sessions This Coming Weekend

Dan McCollam, a minister from the Mission Church in Vacaville, CA, and director of Sounds of the Nations and the Institute for Worship Arts Resources,  is our guest speaker and trainer for the upcoming Worship Conference, to be held in three segments.

Saturday, August 6, from 4 -6 p.m. and from 7:30 - 9:30 p.m. are the first two sessions.  The third one is on Saturday morning, August 7, from 10 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. Each session is NOT a repeat of the first one, but rather a continuation in a series. Attendees must provide for their own meal at the dinner break on Saturday.

Please invite your family members, friends and neighbors who may have an interest in learning more about worship and making it a part of their lives.

UNDERSTANDING WORSHIP

What do we understand about worship? In practice what do we expect from it?

Many actually believe that we are to expect blessings that result from worship. True, there may be blessings in store for them who worship, however, the main reason we as Christians participate in acts of worship is to bless and glorify God rather than the other way around. The focus of worship is far more important than the benefits we might derive from it.

Church worship is an essential part of its public witness to the good news of God in Jesus Christ.  Worship is, quite simply, what Christians do!

We are overjoyed to experience here at Gospel Life Community the true nature of worship and praise.

ALL OCCASION GREETING CARDS

We have available several hundred packs of the All-Occasion Greeting Cards where you can write your own note or greeting.  Each pack contains twelve cards, with four varieties of beautiful Philippine scenery on the front cover.

These are great to use for birthdays, anniversaries, holidays, graduations, weddings and for any other event that you may choose to use them for.  Or, simply, use them to write thank you notes, hellol-I-miss-you notes, as sympathy or get well cards.

You can use them as occasional gifts to family, friends and neighbors, as Christmas stocking fillers, or as bonus take home items for your employees or co-workers.  They can be very versatile as to what you can use them for!

All proceeds go to GOGL(Global Outreach of Gospel Life). We have a very generous member who has donated the cards, printing and packaging!

Get your share and ask your other family members, friends and neighbors to do the same.

The items are on display at the back table in the church sanctuary.

DEATH, BURIAL AND RESURRECTION

Four Baptized

Several of our young people, three of whom are currently attending the Lion's Den School, were baptized yesterday at the beginning of the Good News Hour.  They are Chris Seger, Maddie Kinder, and brothers Steve and Gilbert Enriquez.

Baptism, a symbol of Christ's death, burial and resurrection, is a public declaration of one's belief and acceptance of Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior through faith.

Pastor Hansel officiated in the baptismal rites.

Defining Your Self-Worth

"I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well" (Psalm 139:14).

What measurements do you use to define your self-worth? Do you define it based on your financial assets? Is it based on what you have achieved professionally? Perhaps you define your value based on the number of children you have.

There are many things we can use to define our self-worth. However, the scriptures tell us there is only one measure for our self-worth. Each of us has self-worth because we are made in the image of God. And because we are made in the image of God, we are valuable. Whenever you and I place a value in ourselves that is based on some other performance criteria, we have moved beyond God's view of our worth as human beings. You are never more valuable to God than you were the day you were born.

Many of us have sought to determine our self-worth based on the amount of money we have. This is a dangerous trap. Paul warns us against seeking to build wealth in order to gain greater value. Paul came to understand that the greatest riches could not compare with knowing Christ. In fact, he considered all other material things to be mere rubbish in comparison: "I consider everything a loss compared to the surpassing greatness of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord" (Philippians 3:7-8).

Basing our self-worth on how much money we have or on our achievements is an easy trap. We are bombarded with messages that say we are defined by what we drive, where we live, how many toys we own, and the size of our investment account. The media message is designed to create dissatisfaction and lust for what we don't have.

Paul said the purpose for his existence was......"to know Christ, and the power of his resurrection and the fellowship of sharing in his sufferings, becoming like him in his death" (Philippians 3:10).

In what terms do you define yourself? Is it based on knowing Christ alone?

MEDITATION

"Your Word gives us so much enlightenment and precious promises that we may trust and cling to. In John 12:26 "Whoever serves me must follow me; and where I am, my servant also will be. My Father will honor the one who serves me." I come to you now and lift up my brothers and sisters in Christ who are so faithful to follow you in countries where they are persecuted for doing so.

"You have promised to honor them for believing in You and standing in faith. I pray that You will meet their every need. I pray for peace beyond understanding; for good health; for basic life needs of food, clothing, and shelter; for fellowship with other Christians; for protection from harm and evil; for opportunities to share the Gospel and witness Your love in action; for the opportunity to read Your Word; for happiness; for strength for the weak; for healing for the wounded; for a special touch upon their lives as their very lives are often in danger because they are Christians.

"God, I love these precious people and my heart aches over the things they have suffered and face daily. Please carry them in the shelter of Your power, Your love, Your protection. May the blood of Jesus cover them, cover us all, and keep us for that wonderful day when You return for us to carry us home with You. Let Your church live and prosper in every land. In Jesus' name I pray, amen."
