Fund Raising Dinner, Tuesday, July 26

Worship Seminar, Sunday, July 31

Worship Conference, Saturday & Sunday, August 6,7

Greetings!

The role of worship  is to shape our thoughts and desires toward our God, His Son Jesus, and the Holy Spirit who dwells within us. Actively worshiping rather than just hearing about it gives worship the potential for a deeper experience in our intimacy with Jesus Christ.  In worship, we're not just hearing, but rather we're being the body of Christ before God.

When we praise and worship together at the "River" we allow ourselves to embody and emote our faith together, and what we learn in worship is an etiquette of grace: we learn what it is to hear the word of God together.  We all may hear different things although we are listening to the same word.

One of our best opportunities for corporate worship as a church happens on Sunday morning at the "River."  Let's be there to enjoy being immersed in the Spirit!

FUND RAISING DINNER

Tuesday, July 26th, marks the second time a group from the church goes out to enjoy dinner and at the same time continue to raise funds for our sound system.

Maxim Cafe in Rowland Heights will be the venue this time.  The cost is $20.00 per person, half of which goes to the fund. Maxim Cafe is located behind the Burger King on 18904 Gale St. at the corner of Nogales  (626) 913-7777.

There are close to 40 who have already signed up.  Please contact Johnny Chua if you wish to join this fun evening.  His phone numbers are: (909) 598-6268 at his office, and (626) 251-6412. There are several choices you can make of the entrees available.

Johnny says he will try to make this a monthly fund raiser event.

MORE ON WORSHIP

Most Christians view worship as an event instead of a lifestyle. Our worship on Sunday perhaps launches us for the week but worship is meant to be a lifestyle, not an event.

To keep our hearts full of worship for our great God and King, we must be like a car pulling up to a filling station to receive a full tank of gasoline. Once we are filled up, do we park our vehicle and sit there the rest of the week? No, we go to a filling station to get what we need to leave the station. We have a destination and need full tanks to get there.

The problem occurs when we leave the station. As soon as we walk out of our Sunday worship, people begin to burn up that fuel inside them. Our mates, our children, and our work burn it up. When we leave our church, we are full of God's presence and glory from our time in corporate worship. But we know the enemy's job is to burn up that fuel. The worst thing we can do is to wait until next Sunday to worship. We need to  to stay filled continually.  We need to gas up all week long.

What we do on Sunday must become a way of life to maintain an attitude of praise and worship.

Go find a small group fellowship or a bible study group convenient to you.  The places and times and the phone numbers of the hosts are on the back page of your church bulletin.  You need a "safe community" to belong to if you don't already belong to one.

DEVOTIONAL

by Jon Walker

It is God himself who has made us what we are and given us new lives from Christ Jesus; and long ages ago he planned that we should spend these lives in helping others. Ephesians 2:10 (LB)

"You may be the only picture of Jesus someone will ever see." This commonly heard statement is true, and the work of the Holy Spirit within us is to draw that picture of Jesus out of us until people see it face-to-face.

The problem occurs when we begin to insist that everyone must look exactly the same, that Jesus-in-you should look exactly like Jesus-in-me.

God loves variety and created each of us with different shapes, interests, and personalities, yet, just as all humans have foundational features, such as a common blood system, we all reflect the same Creator.

In Jesus, we share a common blood system - the cleansing, renewing blood of Christ - but the Jesus-in-me may look different than the Jesus-in-you.

To see it another way, we are like stained glass, and our different personalities reflect God's light in a variety of colors and patterns. He shaped us so there would be no duplication, so none of us would have the exact same mix as another, making us each unique.

Each of us is a unique, one-of-a-kind, never to be repeated expression of Christ. Steve Pettit says, "There is a sacramental nature to our particular personalities and, within the family, the God-given freedom to be who we were created to be."

With that also comes the God-given responsibility of love to look out for one another, to know and be known, to love and be loved, and to encourage each other to reach our fullest expressions of Christ-in-us.

Our objective-in-Jesus is to help each other become the best picture of Jesus we can be.

MEDITATION

Dear God, today I feel led to pray for Christians to stand up for their beliefs when confronted with moral issues. I pray that we will know when, where, and what to say and do,  to let our voices be heard.

I pray that we will be involved in our communities, schools, governments as much as possible. I pray that we will have the courage and rely on the power of the Holy Spirit to do what is right, what is biblical, and what honors you.

Thank you for the guidelines you have given us through the Holy Bible. Thank you for the leaders you have provided to inspire, teach, and guide us. Thank you for all of your provisions and blessings. With love and appreciation I come to you, Father. In the name of Jesus, amen.
