NEWSLETTER MONDAY EDITION July 11, 2011
|
Greetings!
There is widespread confusion about the status of our country's financial markets. People are angry and anxious about the economy in general. For most of us, issues of this nature and scale are unprecedented, and the accompanying uncertainty contributes to our apprehension.
These challenges, like so many we face today, are compounded by the speed with which information is distributed. It is not surprising that people worry.
However, it is essential to remember now, as at other times of transition and turmoil, that most of the challenges in life are ones we cannot control and that our trust, as always, is best placed in the Lord. As the Psalmist reminds us, "Give your burdens to the Lord, and he will take care of you. He will not permit the godly to slip and fall. " (Psalm 55:22 NLT)
None of us can know precisely how this or any future predicament will be resolved, but we can take comfort in the certain knowledge that God is still God and that Christ is always with us.

SOUND SYSTEM
God Works in Mysterious Ways
Gospel Life received another gift that cannot be considered other than miraculous. As you all know we have been talking for a long time about the need to upgrade our sound system, but our lack of funds has stood in the way.
Johnny Chua is instrumental in bringing us a brand new 72-channel sound mixer which became available from a business contact of his, and it is valued at over $10,000.
We are in the process of having one who has expertise in setting up sound systems to assist us in putting this donation to work. There are others who have already contributed towards this upgrade, and these monies will be used to purchase other components that will be needed to complete these improvements on our audio equipment.

SMALL GROUP FELLOWSHIP
An Important Part of Our Christian Nurture
Food is essential to life. Small Group Fellowships, also known as Bible Study Groups, provide such an environment as to help us grow in our daily Christian experience.
It is good to receive a weekly infusion of spiritual food when we come to our services on Sunday, but what about the rest of the week? Being fed and regenerated at other times during the week helps us maintain a fresh perspective of our relationship with our Lord. We encourage everyone to become part of a Small Group Fellowship closest to you.

MARKETPLACE MINISTRY
The Role of Spouses in Making Decisions
"The way of a fool seems right to him, but a wise man listens to advice" (Proverbs 12:15).
When John Benson decided to make some financial investments in a new business venture, he was very excited about the possibilities for a handsome financial return. His business and financial background had served him well. John felt strongly that his wife Jenny would not understand the complexity of his investment, so he casually mentioned it to her. When she asked a few simple questions, John became defensive and justified his plans for investing in the venture.
A year later, after investing a large sum of money, John received a phone call from the investment company. All the investors who had put money in the company were going to lose their investment with no ability to recoup it.
This story could be retold repeatedly across the world. God's principles for making decisions require input from both spouses, regardless of their level of expertise. If you are not married, make sure you seek wisdom from a few close associates you know and trust.
God has called married couples to be one. If we seek to make decisions independently, then we benefit from only 50% of the intended resource God has placed within our grasp. In marriage, this stewardship of decisions requires two people. God blesses this union by honoring the decisions made with the motive of glorifying God and relying on His Spirit to lead in our decision-making process.
Before you make a major decision, get confirmation for your decision from your spouse.

MEDITATION
|
| "Grant us, O God, not to be anxious about earthly things, but to love things heavenly; and even now, while we are placed among things that pass away, to hold fast to those that will endure.
"We pray that You will strengthen the relationships we have with family and friends. Make us a blessing among the circle of those we love and live with. Give us the grace to bless those who curse us, so that You will get the glory.
Let us be aware of all Your blessings to us, many of which we don't even know about.
For these things we pray through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, one God for ever and ever. Amen."
