July 6, 2011    NEWSLETTER    Wednesday Edition

Greetings!

Our national economic crisis has a telling effect on every one of us. We are bombarded daily with reminders of the worsening financial crisis around us, and we recognize that there are no easy solutions for these situations as they impact our families, our workplaces and the general community around us.

Like the Prodigal who comes to his senses and returns home, we as God's people seek a new life.  We recognize in this crisis an invitation into a deeper simplicity, a tightening of the belt, and a broader generosity.

Our stated goals in Gospel Life Community move us toward the standard of Christ's teaching, but we nevertheless often fall short of the transformation to which Christ calls us in our own lives in order to live more fully into the Gospel paradigm of God's abundance for all.

God's abundant mercy and forgiveness meet and embrace us, waiting to empower us through the Holy Spirit to face the coming days.

"I have learned to be content with whatever I have.  I know what it is to have little, and I know what it is to have plenty.  In any and all circumstances I have learned the secret of being well fed and of going hungry, of having plenty and of being in need.  I can do all things through him who strengthens me."  Philippians 4: 11b-13.

FIRST SUNDAY BLESSINGS

Praise and Worship at "The River" on Sunday was another Spirit-filled experience for most if not all who were there.  God's presence was palpable, and the songs were very expressive of gratitude to a wonderful God, Creator and Savior.

Several testimonies were given and heard at the 11 o'clock service. Cora Santos praised the Lord with her piano rendition. One of our teenage kids, Faye (Arlene Gamo-Gwynne's daughter),  paid tribute to God with a song she sang while playing the guitar.

We had a Communion service at the end of the hour and every one received blessings untold just by being here.

Praise the Lord, for He is good!

Other tasks in and out of the church building  are waiting to be done as well.  Please plan to share your time and effort for this important appointment.  Men, women, the youth -- all are welcome to join. The time for this group effort will be announced later.

DEVOTIONAL

"He guides the humble in what is right and teaches them his way." Psalm 25:9 (NIV)

The Bible says there are several things we need to do to receive guidance from God, but the very first thing is this: I need to admit I need a guide!

Sheep, by nature, tend to wander off the path. The Prophet Isaiah says, "All of us like sheep have strayed away! We have left God's paths to follow our own." (Isaiah 53:6 NLT)

Most of the time we don't want to follow God or anybody else. We want to go our own way. We don't want to admit we need direction or that we need a guide.

Another thing about sheep is that they have poor vision. They can't see very far ahead. That's why they need a shepherd.

God made you so that you would not be able to see into the future no matter how much you try. Why did God do this? He did it so you would depend on Him.

Proverbs 14:12 says, "There is a way that seems right to a man, but in the end it leads to death." (NIV)

We've all made decisions that at the time seemed right but later on turned out to be wrong.

Some paths lead to dead ends and we end up off track. That's why we must admit, "God, I need help."
