Independence Day Special

GL Logo 2

Greetings!

Today we commemorate the Declaration of Independence of these United States of America, where freedom rings.  But are we truly free?

True freedom is available to us only through our knowledge, belief, and acceptance of Jesus Christ as our Savior and Redeemer.

Jesus Himself stated that He is the Way, the Truth and the Life.

John 8:32 says, "And you will know the Truth, and the Truth will make you free." (NLT)

We can, therefore, read this text thus:  "And you will know Jesus, and Jesus will make you free."

Let's all hold on to Him, our assurance of true freedom!

FEATURES

You may notice that this special Independence Day issue of our Newsletter does not carry our usual features, because our offices at Gospel Life are closed.  We will resume our regular edition on Wednesday, July 6.
MISAPPLIED FREEDOM

A man from a country where freedom is only a figment of the imagination arrives in the United States.  As soon as he steps on U.S. soil he declares to himself, " Ah, how good it is to be free."  Whereupon, he punches the first policeman he meets on the nose!

The policeman asks, "Why, Sir, did you do that?"

The man says, "Because now I am free!"

As the policeman cuffs the new arrival, he retorts, "Your freedom ends where my nose begins!"

MEDITATION

Dear God, I always profess that I believe in your Son, Jesus, that He died for me once and for all time, so that I may be free.  But why do I act like I am still a slave to the powers of this world?

Lord, help my unbelief!  Let me understand that you gave your only Son to literally purchase my freedom, and that because of this extreme sacrifice on the cross of Calvary, I am no longer bound to the law, and saved by your grace alone, by faith alone, in Christ alone!

Now You can only see me as one totally covered by the righteousness of Jesus, like one who has never sinned, without guilt.

Thank you, God, for your love and for taking care of me.  Thank you, Jesus, for dying in my place and assuring my freedom though undeserved.   Thank you, Holy Spirit, for dwelling within me.  Amen.
