Where Are Our Priorities?
|
|
Greetings!
Most of us don't enjoy budgeting. Writing down where we spend our money can be painful, particularly when we have less coming in than going out. Let's remember, though, that budgeting is not just a case of trying to make our money last till the next paycheck. It's also a spiritual exercise, revealing what our actual priorities are.
Billy Graham once said, "Give me five minutes with a person's checkbook and I will tell you where their heart is."
Let's ask God to show us how to manage the financial resources He has entrusted to us so we can make financial decisions that include Him in every turn.

Ten-week School Begins Tomorrow
The Lion's Den School of the Supernatural starts tomorrow evening, Thursday, at 6:30 p.m.
Several guest faculty members will teach certain segments of the curriculum over the ensuing 10 weeks. There are 30 sessions in all, spanning June 16 to August 27. There will be no classes during the July 4th weekend.
The classes are scheduled for Thursdays and Fridays, from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m., and on Saturdays from 9:00 a.m. till noon.
Pastor Hansel is in charge of this program and will be teaching parts of the course as well.
Curriculum: Our curriculum is all based on the victory that Jesus Christ has already won on the cross. He has come as the Lamb of God to be the sacrifice for us and as the Lion of Judah to destroy all the things that plague our lives. His purpose is to give us powerful and abundant lives. To achieve this we must BELIEVE victory is already in our hands. We must renew our minds so that we can live in this truth. John 10:10, Colossians 2:15, Romans 12:2, Revelation 5:5 Week 1 - Leaving Your Baggage Behind, and Picking Up Freedom for the Future I Week 2 - Leaving Your Baggage Behind, and Picking Up Freedom for the Future II Week 3 - Gospel of the Kingdom: The Power of Grace Week 4 - Worship: Intimacy & Warfare Week 5 - Signs and Wonders: Gifts of the Spirit I Week 6 - Signs and Wonders: Gifts of the Spirit II Week 7 - Supernatural Street Ministry Week 8 - God's Dream: Your Destiny as a Leader I Week 9 - God's Dream: Your Destiny as a Leader II Week 10 - Pulling It All Together: Your Life in the Spirit

| | GIVE TO CAESAR....
| | |
...and Give to God the Things that are God's
We come across this verse in the Gospels telling us to render to the government what it is entitled to, "....but everything that belongs to God must be given to God." (Matthew 22:21 NLT)
When we actually sit down and attempt to write the income and the outgo, what does this exercise reveal about your priorities? And what might you want to change in the way you allocate your money? Does it include something we set aside specifically to help maintain and sustain our church projects and expenditures?
(Re-read the section, How Much?, in Monday's Newsletter.)
Learning contentment is one of the most significant disciplines we can achieve. Contentment reduces our desire to spend, creating a cushion between our spending and our income. This brings about the opportunity to give away, to save, and to share.

"Blessed are the meek, for they will inherit the earth." Matthew 5:5 (NIV)
Do you want to make a difference in your life but just can't seem to get there? Do you want to see a change in a situation but it just doesn't seem to happen? Where do you find the real power to make a real difference in your life?
Jesus teaches us that real power is found in one of the strangest, most unexpected places. Real power is found in meekness.
Now when we talk about meekness, or gentleness, we tend to think of something sweet and gentle like a lamb or a baby. But, in God's dictionary, meek does not mean weak. It means "power under control."
Imagine it this way, it's like a rocket launching off a pad. If you took the same amount of energy and created an explosion, it would destroy the launch pad. But because that energy is funneled in a certain direction, it is instead able to launch the rocket into space.
That's what God wants to do in your life. He wants to take the power you have in your words, emotions and drive, and put it under control. But it's your choice. You have three ways you can choose to live your life.
- The out-of-control life. This kind of living destroys everything around you. It's explosive with a lot of anger, issues, destructive power and undisciplined actions. It may seem like a lot is happening, but it leads to destruction in all areas.
- The in-control life. In this type of living, you try to control every aspect of your life. This approach will leave you tired and stressed out as you realize you can't keep everything in check.
- The under-God's-control life. In this type of living, you take the power God has given you and you give it back to him. You stop trying to control everything yourself. Under God's control, you can be used in ways you never thought were possible.
Can you guess which way of living will be the most fruitful? When we submit our life to God's control it will produce the fruit Paul talked about in Galatians 5:22-23, "love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control" (NIV).

| MEDITATION |
| |
Dear Lord, I have so many things going on in my life. Let me know which tasks are really important and what special projects or missions I should take on. Open my eyes that I may see the needs that surround me, in my family, in my church, and in my community. Warn me to stop and not get involved in a any project that does not glorify You.
Help me to examine my motives, skills, qualities, and abilities related to accomplishing any task before me. And please guide me in every step, that I may choose your will and receive your blessings.
You taught me about building treasure in heaven rather than on earth; teach me to be content when my needs, rather than my wants, are satisfied. Grant me wisdom to be a faithful steward. In Jesus' name. Amen.
