Greetings!
What do I mean when I say I am a Christian? Not sure who's the author of the following verses but they pretty much describe what I must mean when I say that I am a Christian.
When I say that I am a Christian, I am not shouting that I am clean living. I'm whispering I was lost, but now I'm found and forgiven. When I say I am a Christian, I don't speak of this with pride. I'm confessing that I stumble and need Christ to be my guide. When I say I am Christian, I'm not trying to be strong. I'm professing that I'm weak and need His strength to carry on. When I say I am a Christian, I'm not bragging of success. I'm admitting I have failed and need God to clean my mess. When I say I am a Christian, I'm not claiming to be perfect. My flaws are far too visible, but God believes I am worth it. When I say I am a Christian, I still feel the sting of pain. I have my share of heartaches, so I call upon His Name.. When I say I am a Christian, I'm not holier than thou, I'm just a simple sinner who received God's good grace, somehow! Consider today as the Beautiful Christian Person's Day! Pretty is as Pretty does, but Beautiful is just plain Beautiful, and you are one of them! The Church Staff |

|  | |
Its Context in Christianity
 "The fundamental reason for all acts of stewardship is gratitude for the abundance we have been given," says a church leader.
The ministry of stewardship is rooted in the understanding that the entirety of our life is a gift from God. The most precious gift is God's self-gift, the person of Jesus Christ who came so that we may know life abundant. Stewardship is a response of discipleship, an ordering of life that puts all we have under Christ's rule: our time, our money, our relationships. Jesus is not interested in just ten percent. Jesus wants one hundred percent of our lives. The essence of stewardship formation asks: How do we respond? The stewardship journey is one of struggle, hope and transformation. Let's pray that God will find for us a collection of resources to equip us in our journey towards creating a culture of gratitude and generosity for all that has been given to us, for everything that we receive day after day, and for all things that we are yet to be blessed with. We know we live in a time of economic crisis. Times of crisis can cause panic, and panic can reveal the best and the worst of the human character. But as Christians we are reminded not to give in to fear, but to become beacons of hope. While our nation's decision makers labor to chart the right course for the nation's economy, Christian churches must do what we are always called to do: to minister to those in need and pray both for those in need and those who make hard decisions about our nation's future. As Christians we are often referred to as communities of hope. It is with that hope, grounded in our faith, that we see this economic crisis as an opportunity to move forward according to God's plan for us. That is our vocation--to become beacons of hope, not because we possess a secret answer to complex financial and economic questions, but rather because we know that the One through whom all blessings flow and all things were made, possesses us in the palm of His hand, that He is in control and that He remains Sovereign on His throne. |

Loving God (Matthew 22: 37-38)
a. Pursuing intimacy with God by worshiping Him every day, both in private and in the company of other believers.
The Holy Spirit helps us to accomplish this by having a "quiet time" with God everyday, by praying, reading and contemplating the Bible, praising Him with songs and Bible verses; speaking to Him throughout the day (both quietly and loudly); listening to His voice in regard to all issues of life; feeling the awe of God's magnificence; expressing gratitude for God's love and authority; acknowledging God's control and power; following Jesus with dedication and passion and enjoying the miracle of His relationship with me.
b. Growing spiritually with intentionality by learning more about the Christian faith and applying the principles of Jesus' teaching in my daily life. This is cultivated by attending weekly small group meetings and weekend worship services regularly; giving offerings or gifts and setting a portion of my monthly income to help support God's work; developing and practicing habits that are physically healthful; living a life of simplicity by glorifying God in dress, adornment, recreation and entertainment; reserving daily and weekly time for deeper Bible study; reading inspirational and instructional books by Christian authors; participating in advanced Bible studies; and attending Bible and ministry conferences.
(Last week we started this section on the Christ-centered lifestyle. The five components are 1) Loving God, 2) Loving My Family, 3) Serving Humanity, 4) Sharing the Good News, and 5) Fulfilling My Life Mission. Today we re-publish the first of five points above. This is also found in the recently published Gospel Life pamphlet entitled "Strategy for Kingdom Culture Formation: Gospel Life Master Plan 2011.")

Final Reminder
 Please turn in your order forms for the Earthquake / Emergency Kits by this coming Sunday. Our short fund raising campaign to benefit our Worship Ministry will soon be over.
Obtain as many orders as you can from family members, friends, and neighbors. The items you order are essential to have in readiness for emergency situations in your home, office, car or for your children's school. They are great as Father's Day gifts, graduation gifts, birthday gifts or you can save them up as Christmas gifts!
Make sure to submit payment with the order forms. Checks should be made out to "Gospel Life" with a memo "for Worship Ministry project." Additional order packets are in the Church foyer in the large white envelopes.

The Place of Nothingness
"Be still and know that I am God"
(Psalm 46:10) .
Do you find yourself in a place of nothingness? There is a time and place in our walk with God in which He sets us in a place of isolation and waiting. It is a place in which all past experiences are of no value. It is a time of such stillness that it can disturb the most faithful if we do not understand that He is the one who has brought us to this place for only a season. It is as if God has placed a wall around us. No new opportunities - simply inactivity.
During these times, God is calling us aside to fashion something new in us. It is a place of nothingness designed to call us to deeper roots of prayer and faith. It is not a comfortable place, especially for a task-driven workplace believer. Our nature cries out, "You must do something" while God is saying, "Be still and know that I am God." You know the signs that you have been brought into this place when He has removed many things from your life and you can't seem to change anything. Perhaps you are unemployed. Perhaps you are laid up with an illness.
Many people live a very planned and orchestrated life where they know almost everything that will happen. But for people in whom God is performing a deeper work, He brings them into a time of quietness that seems almost eerie. They cannot see what God is doing. They just know that He is doing a work that cannot be explained to themselves or to others.
Has God brought you to a place of nothingness? Be still and know that He really is God. When this happens, your nothingness will be turned into something you will value for the rest of your life.

| | MEMORIAL DAY
|  | |
May 31, Monday

As we celebrate the Memorial Day Holiday weekend, let us continue to pray for all the troops especially those assigned overseas in areas of constant danger and turmoil. Jessica, Archie and Cesar's daughter, is going back to Afghanistan. Let us pray for her safety and for her witness to those she works with.
There are many who, this weekend, will visit the gravesites of their loved ones who have passed on. Make this an opportunity to speak to others, who may also be visiting their loved ones' graves, with words of hope and encouragement.
Jesus said that when we do things to minister to others, it is as though we have done these to Him.

MEDITATION
"Grant us Lord, not to be anxious about earthly things, but to love things heavenly; and even now, while we are placed among things that pass away, to hold fast to those that shall endure; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, one God, forever and ever. Amen." |

THE SERENITY PRAYER
God grant me the serenity
to accept the things I cannot change;
courage to change the things I can;
and wisdom to know the difference.
Living one day at a time; Enjoying one moment at a time; Accepting hardships as the pathway to peace; Taking, as He did, this sinful world as it is, not as I would have it; Trusting that He will make all things right if I surrender to His Will; That I may be reasonably happy in this life and supremely happy with Him Forever in the next. Amen.
