Greetings!

We are God's stewards.  Whatever we may have is on loan from Him.  He entrusts us with these things to manage according to His plan.  We are prone, however, to do whatever we want with our properties, possessions, and even our bodies just the way we want to, often to our own detriment.

Let's all prayerfully consider how we would handle and share the blessings that we receive day in and day out. As God blesses, so must we thankfully give back  and bless others.

LOVING COMMUNITY

The theme for the sermon topics for the month of May is centered around a Loving Community.  Pastor Joannie spoke on this subject yesterday citing one of "Our Shared Values" in Gospel Life which is:  Christ's command to be a loving community - "We will create an accepting and gracious environment where spiritual friendships and mutual caring among believers are developed and nurtured.

She brought out several attributes of a loving community as garnered from the song "By Our Love." These are unity, walking through life together while encouraging and uplifting each other, and working with each other to serve others, in an atmosphere where worship and intimacy with God is a priority.

Subtopics that will be further expounded on this month are the community of grace, the community of service and the community of power.

EMERGENCY PREPAREDNESS

In the next couple of weeks Emergency Preparedness will be highlighted by encouraging our congregants, their family members and friends to become aware of what they should have on hand should any unforeseen disaster or calamity strikes.

There are natural events like earthquakes, storms, tornadoes, and emergencies such as auto accidents, car troubles, power outages and even simple cuts and scrapes where we either can't find or don't have the most common things we might need in such instances.

We will have available for you informative brochures on what you may need in terms of emergency kits for first aid, earthquake kits for school, office or vehicle and others.  Someone will be available to help you if there are questions regarding these kits next Sunday after church.  There will be a display outside the church doors and you may want to place your orders there.  It will also help raise funds for our Worship Ministry.

This will be a good way of being personally prepared for emergencies.  It may also give you ideas for gifts not only for Father's Day, graduations, birthdays, etc. Do not forget that this project was endorsed and approved at our last Core Group meeting.

OUR MISSIONARIES

Please include in your prayer list our missionaries from Gospel Life Community who are currently in the Philippines doing various activities.

Our lead ministers John and Jessie Tulio are conducting a Pastors' Conference for the pastors and lay ministers from several Gospel Life churches in the Philippines.  The conference will be held at the Irawan Church in Palawan, May 12-16.  Pastor Hansel will be in Palawan to help teach and nurture those who will attend.

Pastor Jon J of the Nothing To Lose Foundation will also be holding basketball clinics in Puerto Princesa City for high school kids to help develop leadership skills.

Let's pray that a core group of believers will be established in the MetroManila area. There are some possibilities right now.  Those who will lead and where to form this(ese) group(s) are questions that still remain.

MARKETPLACE MINISTRY

Prayer at Work

"Epaphras, who Paul states to the Colossians 'is one of you and a servant of Christ Jesus. . . . He is always wrestling in prayer for you, that you may stand firm in all the will of God, mature and fully assured'" (Colossians 4:12).

Many of us have been entrenched in the "secular versus sacred" model for so long that it can be difficult for us to view our work as a ministry and workplace believers as missionaries in the 9 to 5 Window. However, God tells us clearly that we are to glorify God in all that we do (see Col. 3:17, 24). Having people pray for us to fulfill our purpose and calling in our workplaces is consistent with the will of God for every individual.

While the idea of a workplace intercessor may be a new concept for us, we need to remember the examples we find in the New Testament of believers praying for one another such as Epaphras in the scripture above.

Colin Ferreira is a friend, a board member for our ministry, and an owner of an optical business in Trinidad. I first met Colin in 2001 when he invited me to speak at a Caribbean workplace conference that he was organizing. I have watched Colin develop into a Kingdom business leader.

Through a series of struggles common to most businesses, Colin began to recognize the need for more prayer coverage. One of the organizations for which he had been supplying financial and leadership support maintained a prayer ministry. Colin asked the minister who headed the organization to intercede for him and his company on an ongoing basis, and she gladly agreed.

The two met periodically to discuss prayer needs and critical issues developing within the organization, which the minister then addressed discreetly in her intercessory group meetings. Often, this woman would recognize specific problems during these prayer meetings and know how to pray for them effectively.

Is prayer a regular part of your time with God? Are you in relationship with others who are praying for you?

MOTHER'S DAY

A segment of our Sunday Service yesterday was set aside to honor our mothers at Gospel Life.  Janice Alano paid tribute to the mothers as she does each year. The young children of our congregation rendered a fitting song for the mothers, after which small tokens (a journal notebook and pen) were distributed to the mothers.

Eunice Alinsod gave a response on behalf of the mothers. A prayer of blessings upon the mothers was offered by Jayson Alano.

Thank God for our Mothers!

"I praise You, O Lord, for Your awesome and holy being. I thank You for the life You have given me. I appreciate the beautiful blessings You have provided in the earth around me and the simple, but important, things of life.

"Thank You for family--my birth family, my extended family, and  my church family.  I take them for granted many times. Help me to always show my appreciation and love to them. Thank You for taking care of me. Thank You for answering my prayers in the way that You know is best. Thank You for always being here for me. With all my love, in the name of Jesus I pray, amen.
