Greetings!

Have you considered a butterfly that works its way out of a cocoon before it emerges in all its splendor, ready to fly?  I read somewhere that if one tries to open the cocoon to "help" the butterfly emerge, it does so but is unable to fly.  Apparently the struggle it goes through helps it to fully develop into the magnificent flying creature that it is supposed to become.

"Dear Lord, How amazing it is to compare our life to the caterpillar that is surrounded by the cocoon and struggles until it emerges a beautiful butterfly. I pray that as I struggle through life's challenges, that I lean on You and allow the cocoon of Your love to surround me and the circumstances and trials to help mold me into the beautiful creature You want me to become. Thank You for all You do. In Jesus' name, amen."  (From Prime Time with God, by Os Hillman)

PASTOR HANSEL REPORTS

From Guimba, Nueva Ecija

Our first report from the Philippines comes through Pastor Hansel's Facebook page where this past weekend was spent over at the Gospel Life church in Guimba (pronounced Geem' - bah), Nueva Ecijah (Eh-cee'-hah)  which is also his ancestral hometown.  Pastor John delivered the sermon for the Sunday service while Pastor Hansel led out in the prayer ministry.

He reports numerous experiences from the prayers for healing.  More details to come.

Meanwhile, they also attended an inauguration gala of the Southern California Filipino Dental Society held in Manila, on April 30, at the Hyatt Hotel, where Dr. Harley Orzame, Pastor Hansel's dad,  was installed as the incoming President.

Johnny Orzame, Joy Espenida, Natalie Phillips-Orzame, and Alex and Sylvia Ramirez were also in attendance at Dr. Harley's inauguration.

THE LIFE OF RILEY....

Did he or did he not minister?

It was like "Something cool happened when I went to Romblon!"  or is it "Something funny happened on my way to Romblon?" Riley Charles, the older son of Randy and Tessa Charles, related his story yesterday during our First Sunday Service about his recently concluded trip to the Philippines.  Actually, he brought the FIRST REPORT back from the Philippines among those who went there for a missionary trip.

He joined the Nothing to Lose Foundation team of Pastor Jon J and Marcia Tulio to help out in basketball (and volleyball) clinics that were held while he was there. Riley, being a basketball player himself appeared to have had fun with the clinics as he communicated with the locals who were not too conversant with English.

Riley had funny stories to tell about taking a "shower" with cold water, eating what he thought was "curry" (kare-kare), sweating to no end due to the high humidity, and other things typically Filipino.  At the end he wondered if he had actually ministered or witnessed spiritually to those he instructed and played with.

Yes, Riley, you did!  Ministering and witnessing to people about Jesus does not necessarily have to mean that you talk to them or preach to them about Him, but the life you showed them, your conduct, your demeanor and the way you treated them said a lot about how Jesus  works in your life.  That they got that influence from you is your witness and your ministry!

PASTOR L J  TAKES CHARGE

Smooth Service, Y'All

Pastor Hansel is in charge of our First Sunday services.  While he is away, assistant Pastor L J is the man!

Yesterday's First Sunday Service went without a hitch, so to speak.  We had such an inspirational Praise and Worship from 10 a.m. which transitioned seamlessly into our second service which Pastor L J conducted with his usual self-confidence borne of the intimate work of the Holy Spirit.  Pastor Joannie's words of knowledge expressed at the River are always inspirational and filled with heartfelt emotion. So was Chris Miranda's reading from the Bible.

We listened to testimonies from several former Lion's Den School graduates including Eric Torres, Martin Cabrera, Jr., Janet Yost.  Riley Charles's story was riveting, to say the least.  Each of their testimonies reflected a deep conviction and belief in the leading of the Holy Spirit and each testimony evidently springs from a knowledge that God directs our lives in ways we sometimes have no idea about.

Pastor L J's running commentary, without notes or the aid of a laptop testifies to impartation which he, in particular, and all of us in general,  receive from the Spirit even when we are not aware of it actively taking place.

We rededicated our commitment to God and to each other as we took part in the Communion Service, in remembrance of the Last Supper Jesus had with His disciples just before His death and subsequent resurrection.

Let us all pray for our pastors and leaders while they are abroad sharing the gospel, and for those of us here to carry out God's plan and purpose for us as He directs.

COMMENDATION

For the Three Fellowship Lunch Teams

Every Sunday, our physical hunger is satiated after church service as we go to our Fellowship Hall to eat lunch.  One of three teams provides us with our fare for lunch. Let us recognize each of these teams and remember them in our prayers as they plan for our Sunday lunch week after week.

It is not an easy task, and our lunches vary in content and "genre" if there is such a thing with food.  But we stay, we enjoy what is served, but best of all we are able to fellowship with each other around  each table.

So let's give each team (two from the San Gabriel Valley, and one from the LA/Glendale area) a hand and let's not forget to thank them for a job they do well considering the shortage of resources.

Sudden Ghosts in Life

When the disciples saw Him walking on the lake, they were terrified. "It's a ghost," they said, and cried out in fear. - Matthew 14:26

Have you ever had some unexpected event happen in your life that caused great fear? Sudden calamities can result in great fear unless we know Who is behind the event. Such was the case for the disciples when they were out in their boat at night. Suddenly, they saw a figure walking on the water and assumed it was a ghost. They feared for their very lives. But as the figure got closer and closer, they could see that it was Jesus. Their fear turned to joy because now they knew whom they were confronting. This seemingly life-threatening event turned into one of the great miracles of the Bible. Peter was invited to walk on the water -- and he did just that.

Many times we have events in our lives that appear to be ghosts.

For me, it was a period in my life when I experienced family loss, loss of my finances, and 80 percent of my business -- all in a matter of a few months. These were the ghosts that instilled fear and great turmoil in my life. But after two years in this desert experience, God revealed His true purposes for these events. He turned them from being a place of fear, to a place of miracles. He led me to a totally new calling in my life, and He demonstrated to me that He was behind the storm that led to these new discoveries. The events were real. The emotions I went through were real. I had to hold fast to the reality that nothing can touch us without passing through God's sifter. He allows only that which is necessary to touch us. And if it does, it has a purpose. But we may not know it for a while.

Are there some "ghosts" in your midst? Look beyond the appearance and let God turn your ghosts into a miracle.

MEDITATION

"Dear God, Sometimes I find it hard to manage my time well. There is so much to do. Please prioritize my daily activities for me so as to align with your will, your plan, your purpose, and to do what is most important as well as the little mundane tasks that must be done.

"Help me to know when to say 'no' to projects and requests that come along that would overwhelm me or take away from what you want me to do. Please let me always love and care for those lives you have entrusted to my care and to my circle of influence. In Jesus' name I pray, amen."
