Greetings!

We are entering the second quarter of the year.  Time seems to go faster nowadays. And yet we seem unable to keep pace with all the things we'd like to do.

There is that deep seated desire to share our Good News with others, "but when do we have the time to do it?" we ask. If we think about it, sharing our faith doesn't have to mean talking about it with someone all the time, or at specific times of any given day. The way we carry ourselves in public, the way we talk, the way we deal with customers or with co-workers above or below us, the way we react to situations, the way we behave -- all these speak volumes about the message that we have for people with whom we come in contact, day in and day out.

Inviting someone to come to our small group fellowship, or to a church service, or to a church sponsored activity is one way to bring a family member, a friend or a neighbor to a working knowledge of what we are, what we believe in, what we stand for!

Let's always be conscious of the opportunities that abound to witness for our Lord as we go about our daily business.

SUNDAY BLESSINGS

Someone said to me, "I think I like First Sundays," referring to Gospel Life's freewheeling format on the first Sunday of every month, "because you get to hear people talk about things that inspire you...."

Yesterday, a First Sunday, was just that:  inspirational and uplifting.  We heard a vibrant testimony as well as an encouragement to join the forthcoming Lion's Den School of the Supernatural from Ruth Jordan.  We were also enthralled by Archie Davenport's experiences that he was sure to be Providential. We, too, were certain that God had His hands on the things that Archie spoke about.

And then, there is Riley Charles, no longer a little boy running around church, but now a tall and purposeful young man "sent" by God on a mission to the Philippines as he joins the N2L (Nothing to Lose Foundation) team for a short while.  How blessed were we to see the church gather around him to send him off with prayers, blessings and impartations from his church family.

Three precious ones were baptized towards the end of the service, as Archie Davenport, Joy Espenida, and Bobbie publicly declared through their baptism that they have accepted Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior.

As always, the Communion Service was a happy celebration and reminder of Jesus' supreme sacrifice for all mankind when He died on the cross for all our sins, past, present and future.

All of us are thankful and glad to see Jessica, daugther of Archie and Cesar Cabrera, returning on a furlough from Afghanistan as an active military volunteer in the U.S. Army.  We thank her for continuing to serve our country well.

WEDDING SHOWER
Darica Joy Espenida and Harvey John Orzame were the objects of admiration for the wedding shower given in their honor at Gospel Life on Saturday evening.

The couple was seen having fun as they dined together, or went around the tables together for pictures and such, or as they played together or talked to the guests who came to celebrate with them.

A delicious spread of food for dinner and desert  was prepared by several families from the church.  Grilled marinated beef and chicken were freshly prepared as the main meat dishes for the evening. A vegetarian entree was available as well.

Several games that included the shower guests were played to everyone's laughter and delight.  The couple opened and acknowledged their gifts at the end.  Many more gifts await to be delivered from their bridal registry at Bed Bath and Beyond.

CORE GROUP MEETING

There is a Core Group meeting on Sunday, April 10, at 2 p.m.  Important plans will be discussed.  All core group members are encouraged to attend.  This includes  the Leadership Board (elders, coordinators, managers and ministry leaders) and members actively involved in the various ministries of the church.

SATURDAY  ACTIVITIES

First, the Japan Disaster Relief Fund drive-thru will be conducted from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, April 9.  This is a cooperative effort sponsored by Gospel Life together with the Filipino American Chamber of Commerce of San Gabriel Valley, the Chinese American Association of Walnut, the East San Gabriel Valley Japanese Community Center, and other civic groups. Johnny Chua, president of both the FACCSGV and the CAAW, has been coordinating this effort.

Please inform your family, friends and neighbors, and the small group or bible study group that you belong to, of this event.  A large banner will be displayed by the roadside pointing to the tent that will be set up just outside our gate for this purpose. We request volunteers to help set up the tent at about 8:00 a.m. and to take it down at about 5:00 p.m.

Second, the Ministry Class on Homiletics will hold its third and final session on Saturday morning as well, from 9:30 a.m. till 12 noon.  All those who have been attending this class are reminded of this appointment.

TRAVEL ASSISTANCE

Another reminder that sponsors are needed for the Pastors' Conference that will be held in Palawan on May 12 - 16. This conference is being convened for the benefit of Gospel Life's pastors and lay ministers who are leading out in Gospel Life's churches in the Philippines.  The estimated expense for these pastors' transportation runs at approximately $150 each.  Fifteen pastors and lay ministers are going to be in attendance.

Please make your gifts no later than Sunday, April 17th.

MARKETPLACE  MINISTRY

Thinking Outside the Box

"But this He said to test him, for He Himself knew what He would do"

(John 6:6).

Jesus and the disciples had just crossed the Sea of Galilee and multitudes followed Him because of the miracles they saw Him do. He was about to speak to them when Jesus realized it was dinner time and the people would be hungry. There were more than 5,000 people who needed to be fed.

Jesus already knew what He was going to do in this situation. However, He was testing the disciples to see if they would think beyond themselves to find a God-solution to the problem. They failed the test. They immediately thought like most of us would think. The disciples looked in their pocketbooks and realized they did not have adequate resources to purchase enough food for the crowd.

It is when we come to the end of our resources that God comes in with His resources.

When I first published volume one of TGIF in book form, I was required to order 1,000 copies from my publisher. We had very little distribution and sales of materials at that time. So, after a few months, we still had boxes and boxes of inventory in our basement. "These books are doing us, nor anyone else, any good in our basement," I said to my wife Angie. "I think we need to go downstairs and lay hands on the books and command them to leave our basement based on Mark 11:23 which says we can speak to the mountain and have it removed." We walked downstairs and prayed, "In the name of Jesus get out of the basement and go be a blessing to someone who can benefit from these books!" Feeling very foolish, I walked upstairs. Two hours later we received a call from a Texas-based workplace ministry. They ordered 300 books! Until then, we had never sold more than a few copies in one day!

When a problem arises in your work life do you think only the logical thought? Perhaps God has created this problem as an opportunity to reveal His glory in the situation. Next time, go outside the box and see the glory of God manifested in your problem!

MEDITATION

"Dear God, You have instructed me to not be anxious, worrisome, overly concerned for any thing...but instead to bring everything to you in prayer and thanksgiving. If I do this, you have promised me that your peace, which passes all understanding, shall keep my heart and mind through Christ Jesus (Philippians 4:6-7).

"I come to you now for myself and on behalf of my brothers and sisters in Christ, and  for those who suffer so much due to anxiety and depression. I pray that you will fill us with your peace; that you will touch our minds and remind us that we do not need to worry. You are our God and maker. You will handle it for us. Worrying does no good. May we lean into you, talk with you, spend time in your Word and before the throne of grace. May we fellowship with other Christians, those who will encourage us, even more so as the day approaches.

"Right now, this day, we give you our concerns and ask that you will work out all to our good and your glory. Thank you, Father, for loving us and carrying our burdens. Thank you, Father, for providing our needs. Thank you, Father, for Jesus Christ our Savior and the assurance of salvation  He has given. For it is in His name that

I pray. Amen"
