Greetings!

It's a cliche that New Year's resolutions are made to be broken. So why make them at all? What if our God makes promises that He breaks all the time? Ah, that is where the huge gulf exists between man's ability and God's consistency, because He is always faithful to His promises to us, to His sons and daughters all over the globe.

Scripture teaches us that once we believe and accept Jesus Christ into our hearts as Lord and Savior, the Holy Spirit lives within us, and that He will never let us go! What a promise!  What an assurance!

As we face a New Year of challenges and of hope, let us all remember that God promised long ago that He will take care of us. "His unchanging plan has always been to adopt us into his own family by bringing us to himself through Jesus Christ.  And this gave him great pleasure."  Ephesians 1:5 (NLT)

New Year's Eve Praise and Prayer

Starts at 7:30 p.m.

The New Year's Eve Praise and Prayer event will take place this coming Friday, December 31,  between 7:30 p.m. and midnight.  Please note the time change from what was previously published in the newsletter.  A special time is set aside from 8:00 to 9:00 p.m. for special prayers for healing, for other personal requests, for impartation and for the prophetic word.

Bring your loved ones and friends with you and enjoy the company of your brothers and sisters in Christ as the old year exits and the new year enters. Some of our church members have indicated they will bring some munchies and light food items for the midnight snack.

Getting Rid of your Old Laptop?

Save it for Pastor Prom

Purple Burst

Pastor Prom Amoguis has made a request that if you have any old laptop that you are no longer using, whether your laptop is working or not, he'd like for you to donate it for a computer class he is organizing in Palawan. He will be teaching interested young people computer basics, and even repairing computers.

He says there are several students already waiting in the wings for this opportunity. So please keep this in mind and bring your laptops to Gospel Life. Pastor Prom will pick them up when they come by sometime in January on their way back to the Philippines.

Art Lab

Marketplace Ministry

The Poor and the Marketplace

"When you reap the harvest of your land, you shall not wholly reap the corners of your field, nor shall you gather the gleanings of your harvest. And you shall not glean your vineyard, nor shall you gather every grape of your vineyard; you shall leave them for the poor and the stranger: I am the Lord your God" (Lev 19:9-10).

God has a special place in his heart for the poor. In the book of Isaiah we read these words:

"Is this not the fast that I have chosen:
To loose the bonds of wickedness,
To undo the heavy burdens,
To let the oppressed go free,
And that you break every yoke?
Is it not to share your bread with the hungry,
And that you bring to your house the poor who are cast out;
When you see the naked, that you cover him,
And not hide yourself from your own flesh?
-Isa 58:6-7

So how does God want us to care for the poor? Is it through government welfare programs, food stamps, or soup kitchens? God gives us his answer in the Old Testament story of Boaz, Ruth and Naomi. It was customary for farmers to not glean their entire fields in order to leave some of the crop for the poor to glean. This allowed the poor to come at the end of the day and work to receive their provision. This is how the widow Naomi was able to care for herself. Boaz allowed the poor in his community to come to his field at the end of the day to get the leftovers of the harvest.

Notice that God created a partnership between the marketplace and the poor. I believe it is the marketplace that has a responsibility to the poor. By providing an opportunity to glean something from our businesses through an opportunity to work, we provide provision and dignity to the poor.

What are the gleanings in your business? Consider how you might serve the poor.

A New Year's Prayer

May the apostle Paul's prayer be ours today and throughout the coming year: "I pray that your hearts will be flooded with light so that you can understand the wonderful future he has promised to those he called.  I want you to realize what a rich and glorious inheritance he has given to his people. I pray that you will begin to understand the incredible greatness of his power for us who believe him.  This is the same mighty power that raised Christ from the dead and seated him in the place of honor at God's right hand in the heavenly realms....And the church is his body; it is filled by Christ, who fills everything everywhere with his presence."
Ephesians 1:18-20,23  (NLT)
