Gospel Life Community Newsletter

November 1, 2010

Greetings!

This is a new month, a new week.  As we get closer to the end of another year, let us ask ourselves:  what have I done  so far to help expand God's kingdom on earth? This has to be an individual question, requiring an individual answer.  We cannot dare to answer this for another person.

Man looks at our outward accomplishments, but only God knows the intent of our actions and the results of those actions.

Grace 301 Seminar

First Session Held Yesterday

The first in a series of seminars regarding spiritual gifts was held yesterday afternoon after the fellowship lunch.

Grace 301 comprises a total of 6 lessons.  The first two lessons are an introduction to spiritual gifts and discovering spiritual gifts of motivation. This is a part of the "Growing in Grace curriculum, a Bible study course that is designed for helping new members of our church family grow in their new life."

This course of study helps one learn "what God's plan is for those who want to serve Jesus as Lord, and to use these gifts to minister to others."

Youth Hold Lock Down 2

Several of our youth from ages 13 to college participated in the second annual Lock Down which began Friday evening and ended at noon on Saturday.  It was a fun time for the youth who engaged in worship, fun games and other bonding activities.

The activity was coordinated by Pastor Hansel Orzame together with youth leaders LJ Dijamco, Tony Jordan, Johnny Orzame, Joy Torres, Laurice Orense and others. There were about 25 in attendance.

Flu Vaccine Schedule
Available at Senior Centers

We tried to obtain the flu vaccines for our members but it seems that rules have changed. However, flu vaccines are available for our senior members at the West Covina and Walnut Senior Centers.

The schedule follows:

November 8, Monday, 9 a.m. to 12 noon - West Covina Senior Center
2501 E. Cortez St., West Covina      Telephone: 626-331-5366

    November 16, Tuesday, 9 a.m. to 12 noon - Walnut Senior Center
21215 La Puente Road, Walnut        Telephone: 909-598-6200
There is also a Health Fair at the same time where vendors provide a
variety of health and service information including health screenings.

The flu vaccine this year combines protection against the seasonal and swine flu viruses. Everyone from age 2 and up should receive immunization.  Children in school and in day care, and adults with chronic medical conditions and in nursing homes are specially vulnerable to the virus.
Greeting Cards for the Holidays blue gift box
This is a reminder to those who have not yet taken home a batch or two of the all-occasion greeting cards we now have available.  Order forms are available at the church foyer.  Additionally, the cards will be on display on a table at the rear of the sanctuary on Sunday.  You can take home whatever you order on that day.
As previously published, donations of $10 per pack of 12 cards (4 varieties of cards in each pack) will be appreciated.  Fifteen to twenty packs per family will be appreciated.  You may use these cards for your personal holiday messages or for any other occasion.  You may give each pack away as a gift or you may ask your family, friends and neighbors to donate in exchange for each pack.
The idea is to help publicize the existence of Gospel Life to those who receive these cards.  Proceeds will benefit our local and overseas missions (Global Outreach of Gospel Life {GOGL}) as well as our youth projects.

But remember the LORD your God, for it is he who gives you the ability to produce wealth, and so confirms his covenant, which he swore to your forefathers, as it is today. Deuteronomy 8:18 (NIV)

"When I turn on the water, I don't really think the water comes from the faucet. In the same way, the source of my finances is God, not my job. "

As you enter your Decade of Destiny, it is important that you trust God with your finances. If you want God to bless you financially, you must remain focused on the truth that he is the source of your finances and he is the one who supplies your needs.

What does that mean?  It means I'm not looking to an employer for my security.  I'm not looking to my savings for security.  I'm not looking to anyone or anything other than God to supply my needs.

Let me illustrate it this way: When I turn on the water, I don't really think the water comes from the faucet.  I know that the water really comes from a reservoir. It just comes to me through the faucet. In the same way, the income that God wants to give you may come through a job or through something else.

But the source is God.

If you trust in a bank account, the bank account can be taken away.  If you trust in your savings, you can lose it. The only true security you can have is when you put your trust in God.  He is the starting point of your finances. He is the one and only true source of your finances.

This means you don't need to worry about which faucet he uses to supply your needs. In a sense he says, 'If I turn off one faucet, I can just as easily turn on another. If you lose one job, I can give you another.  I am your source, not your job. I am your source, not your bank account.'
