Greetings!

Our newsletters attempt to bring current church events and information to our congregants and friends.  Please make it a habit to check your e-mail on a daily basis.  These newsletters generally go out on Mondays and Wednesdays, while additional items may be sent off on other days in the regular e-mail format.

And please encourage those who have e-mail addresses in our system but do not regularly look at their e-mail to try checking it at least on the days that our newsletters go out.  Let's keep ourselves informed.

Gospel Life Community - Church Without Walls
Free Clinic on Saturday

Gospel Life Community is conducting another "bridge event" on Saturday,
October 9, as a participating organization in the Walnut Family Festival. A Free Blood Pressure and Diabetic Screening clinic will be offered as a public service to the community.

As an annual event the festival is attended by a few thousand people.  Last year, Gospel Life received the First Prize for "Best Booth Presentation." Besides the same free clinic, we offered free seasonal flu shots which were given at our church campus.  The Los Angeles County Health Department which assisted us in procuring the vaccines for last year no longer offers the same service this year.

Several Gospel Life volunteers will help set up the tent that will serve as our booth at the festival.  It will be a 10 x 20 foot tent.  Set up will be done and completed on Friday the 8th, beginning at 4 p.m.  The booth will be operative from 10 a.m. to about 4 p.m. on Saturday.  A set of volunteers will take the tent down afterwards.

There will be health brochures available at our booth.  Volunteers for the Prayer Ministry will also be there.  Please stop by our booth and bring your family and friends with you.

Membership Orientation

There will be a "membership orientation" next Sunday, October 10 at about 2 p.m. after the Fellowship Lunch.

This will be a special get-acquainted-with-Gospel Life meeting mainly for new members and for those contemplating to become members and/or regular attendees at this church.  One may learn the things that we aspire for at Gospel Life, the orientation of our goals, mission and vision, and one may also have an opportunity to ask questions and obtain clarification on matters that may be of interest to him or her.

The meeting will be informational in nature and may be of benefit even to some who may have been attending services at Gospel Life for a good while.

Core Group Meeting

A Core Group meeting was held yesterday afternoon at 2 p.m.  It was a well-attended meeting.

Lead Pastor John Tulio reported on the progress of the ongoing Strategy Sessions that have been going on in recent weeks by presenting  a list of "Our Shared Values" that have so far resulted from the past three strategy planning sessions.

Among the shared values listed were:  the primacy of the gospel of grace, the priority of pursuing intimacy with God, Christ's command to be a loving community, our destiny to become Christlike in character, the ministry of our spiritual gifts, our heavenly kingdom authority, the development of strong family units, the fulfillment of our personal life mission, our sharing of resources and our transforming impact on society.

The strategy sessions are designed to help us as a church to plan better for our future growth and direction.

Pastor Hansel Orzame, associate minister for nurture, reported on utilizing the recent graduates of the Lion's Den School of the Supernatural to lead out in future "Encounter"  services similar to the one just held recently.  L J Dijamco, one of our youth leaders, briefly spoke on weekly meetings with the youth in coordination with the church staff and the start of the youth study group using the book "Keys of the Kingdom."

Baptism, Admission to Fellowship Yesterday

.One of our more recent attendees at Gospel Life, Benjamin de Vera, was baptized  yesterday during our First Sunday service as an affirmation and a public declaration that he has transitioned to the New Covenant beliefs that he holds dear to his heart.

Earlier in the service, he accompanied his young daughter, Alexa, with his guitar as she sang a beautiful song.

Benjamin, his wife Julie, and Jessie Guo were all admitted into church fellowship (membership) afterwards.  Julie and Jessie were admitted based on their profession of faith, having been baptized in the past elsewhere.

Devotional Article:

It is God himself who has made us what we are and given us new lives from Christ Jesus; and long ages ago he planned that we should spend these lives in helping others. Ephesians 2:10 (LB)

"God designed you to make a difference with your life. You were created to add to life on earth, not just take from it. "

God calls you to a service far beyond anything you could ever imagine. You were put on earth to make a contribution.

You weren't created just to consume resources - to eat, breath, and take up space. God designed you to make a difference with your life.  You were created to add to life on earth, not just take from it. God wants you to give something back.

T

he Bible says, "God has created us for a life of good deeds, which he has already prepared for us to do." (Ephesians 2:10b, TEV) These "good deeds" are your service to the world. Whenever you serve others in any way, you are actually serving God and fulfilling one of your purposes (Colossians 3:23-24; Matthew 25:34-45; Ephesians 6:7).

What God told Jeremiah is also true for you: "Before I made you in your mother's womb, I chose you. Before you were born, I set you apart for a special work." (Jeremiah 1:5, NCV)

When most people think of this 'special work,' they think of pastors, priests, and professional clergy, but God says every member of his family is to minister. In the Bible, the words servant and minister are synonyms, as are service and ministry. If you are a Christian, you are a minister, and when you're serving, you're ministering.

Have you ever wondered why God doesn't just immediately take us to heaven the moment we accept his grace? Why does he leave us in a fallen world? He leaves us here to fulfill his purposes. Once you are saved, God intends to use you for his goals. God has a ministry for you in his church and a mission for you in the world.

Is there anything holding you back from accepting God's call to serve him?
