Greetings!

This being the Labor Day holiday, our office is technically closed.  However, we would like to let everyone know that we are praying for you today, that you will use at least part of this day to be refreshed and replenished, physically, mentally, socially, spiritually, and to place your faith and confidence in Him who invites us to "come and rest awhile."

A Paradox?
It is interesting to note that on this Labor Day, a lot of folks are NOT laboring, but taking the day off instead.  Our Christian experience is, hopefully, not spent in the same vein.  We ought never to take off even one moment being followers of Christ!
And we do not celebrate a "Christian Day".  Everyday is a day for us to celebrate Christianity, by living just like Christ did while He lived on this earth.
Burn a Quran Day ---  NOT!!
The Dove World Outreach Center located in Gainesville, Florida has declared this coming September 11 as "Burn a Quran Day".  Its leadership is urging Christians to burn a Quran (Koran) that day to denigrate the perpetrators of the September 11, 2001 tragedy in New York City.  Previous to that, they printed shirts that said "Islam is of the Devil" and published a book of the same title.

What do you think will be the net effect of such action?  That church organization is planning to build a bonfire that day to burn Qurans. and although the city has disallowed issuing a permit for this event, they plan to go ahead and do the Quran burning anyway.

Radical Islamists might react severely to this by burning down Christian churches in their countries with impunity.  Already, there are protests in several locations in Islamic countries regarding this. What is probably more important is the impression that Christians will cast should this plan to burn the Quran on 9/11 continue to make headway. How would you react if Bibles are burned to insult Christians?

Are Christians going to show their love by such an act as burning the Quran?  WWJD? What Would Jesus Do?

Top U.S. and NATO commanders in Afghanistan have warned against this act as it could endanger our troops there and other Americans worldwide.

Perhaps we can help avert this group from doing this act by e-mailing your desire that they do not proceed with their plan.  You can visit their website and send your email through  http://www.doveworld.org/contact .

Are you a Martha or a Mary?
When Service Exceeds Devotion
TGIF Today God Is First,  Volume 2 by Os Hillman

"She had a sister called Mary, who sat at the Lord's feet listening to what he said" (Luke 10:39-40).

A story is told of a western missionary group that was sitting with a foreign visitor planning strategy for an upcoming evangelistic trip to his country. One man led in prayer, asking for God's help in planning their activities. The visitor was surprised how the meeting quickly moved to the planning phase after only a few minutes of focused prayer.

He turned to the leader and said, "You have taught us the scriptures well in our country. However, I've noticed when it comes to prayer you spend so little time in prayer listening and much time in planning." The western believers were convicted by his words.

Martha was Mary's older sister. Older sisters always think they know best. They tend to mother the younger siblings. So when Jesus came over to spend an evening at their home Martha wanted to prepare a special meal. She noticed Mary was spending all her time in the living room listening to Jesus. Martha finally felt compelled to appeal to Jesus about the situation.

"But Martha was distracted by all the preparations that had to be made. She came to him and asked, 'Lord, don't you care that my sister has left me to do the work by myself? Tell her to help me!' 'Martha, Martha,' the Lord answered, 'you are worried and upset about many things, but only one thing is needed. Mary has chosen what is better, and it will not be taken away from her'" (Luke 10:40-42).

Jesus reveals a danger in this story that each of us must be aware of. When our concern for serving Jesus exceeds our need to be with Jesus, we are in danger of focusing on the lesser thing. The hardest thing to do for most workplace believers is to sit and listen. It is easier to do.

Today, begin to spend more time listening before you begin doing.

God bless you and keep you in the palm of His hands.  Let us bless His holy name!
