Article4Mandatory Use of E-Verify to Begin September 8

Mandatory use of the E-Verify program is set to begin today, September 8. The U.S. Chamber of Commerce challenged the E-Verify mandate, but the federal court upheld the requirement in a case decided in August 2009. According to an article in The Wall Street Journal, the Chamber filed for an emergency injunction pending an appeal on Friday and barring that order, E-Verify use will begin today.

Federal contractors and subcontractors that are awarded a contract with the Federal Acquisition Regulation (FAR) clause for E-Verify on or after September 8 will have to use the online tool to confirm their existing and new employees' eligibility to work in the United States. Enrollment in E-Verify is required within 30 days of the contract award.
