Greetings!

Combined Worship Sunday!

We only get to do this once a month and it is that time again - the 4th Sunday - we call it "Combined Worship".  We are one church of several congregations or services and while there is an undeniable richness in our diversity, there is a special joy in our unity.  Each worship service is special, but Combined Worship is when All Saints is at her best.

Why is Combined Worship so special?  There are many reasons, but one in particular sticks out to me.  When we gather as we do on the 4th Sunday of the month for Combined Worship, everybody is giving up a little something extra for everybody else.  Everyone is sacrificing something for the brother or sister sitting beside them - location, song choice, style, pew space - all for the sake of worshipping together.  We really do need each other, especially in worship.

C.S. Lewis speaks to this need in Answers to Questions on Christianity, remembering his early days as a Christian.  "When I first became a Christian, I thought that I could do it on my own by retiring to my room and reading theology, and wouldn't go to churches and gospel halls. I disliked very much their hymns which I considered to be fifth rate poems set to sixth rate music. But as I went on I saw the merit of it. I came up against different people of quite different outlooks and different education, and then gradually my conceit just began peeling off. I realized that the hymns (which were just sixth rate music) were, nevertheless, being sung with devotion and benefit by an old saint in elastic-side boots in the opposite pew, and then you realize that you aren't fit to clean those boots. It gets you out of your solitary conceit."

It really is all about Him.  Christ is risen!

See you Sunday.

KairosCollecting Kairos Cookies

in the ACTS Building for Lee Kairos #34

Cookies will be gratefully received Sunday through Tuesday, April 29-May 1. A cookie irrefutably communicates that somewhere beyond the walls of the prison, another living breathing human being, still cares enough to spend time preparing, baking, packing, praying and sending so that the love of Jesus can be shared, felt, smelled and even tasted by those in prison.
